In life....arrgh!

I heard once that up to 2/3 of human beings living are descended from Satanic spirits. Well sometimes it sucks to be alive among human beings. Yet things are happening.

So back on the 16th of December my folks (dad 73, fused spine, double artificial hips, mom 56, nerve damage in spine) got their letter from their boss, after 16 years of service as live-in building maintenance where I live. They are no longer required and have 7 days to vacate.

This morning the temperature outside was -37*C with wind chill. NOT a good time to lose one's position and living quarters.

They started on this path back in 87 when dad lost his job at Goodyear, after working there 23 years. He was getting his first hip replacement operation when the company shut it all down and destroyed the factory. We were still young, living at home and they got this job with my grandmother's help - she was already working in building maintenance since relocating to the Toronto area back in the early 80s.

Combining all of the family's resources and with the extra financial help of my grandmother (since my mom's employer hasn't coughed up the approx. 5 grand they owe my mom in severance pay + vacation - my sister's lawyer is helping on this by threatening lawsuit because their employer broke a number of labour laws in how they did this) the whole family (all 8 of us) will be renting and soon moving into a house here in the west end of the city.

It has a finished basement - some of it converted into bedroom space, making a total of 6 bedrooms.

The rent - $1400/mo + utils - split 5 ways will not be so difficult for everyone to bear. Hopefully the new premium on privacy and close proximity will not be so difficult to adjust to.

We checked out other houses. This one house we saw south of here. Nice town house. 5 bedrooms. 3 full size, 2 absurdly tiny bedrooms in the finished basement. Expensive rent - $2000/month - but there were issues regarding the stairs and the wiring. We said no thanks to that one.

About their abrupt job dismissal after 16 years of diligent live-in service.

Apparently the management is doing this to many of the building supers they have working for them. Around this time of year they're trying to boost their bottom line by making every other super double up on duties. All of this we just learned from my parent's co-super in the next building over (it has always been this way, doubling up every other weekend to permit time off).

Now the company wants to make this a permanent way of life for the remaining supers and they're making good on the dismissals. As rough as it is for those who are forced to pack up and leave in 7 days (yup - if your living quarters come with the job here in Canada, you have no protection and have 7 days to vacate if terminated for any reason), it's going to be even rougher on those who remain behind. They're feeling lots of fear. LOTS of fear.

You GOTTA love that bottom-line blood-sucking corporate mentality, eh! Are some born this way or do they learn it? Unbelievable! Smells like Satan if you ask me.

as salaamu alaykum,

the corporate mentality is so mostrously inhumane, it's just disgusting.  it is so antithetical to a sense of respect for human dignity and a sense of moral consciousness.

if you just read about the cases that are being brought to court now against corporations, you will see how low such people will go to make money.  a case that was just settled out of court in California was against Unocal, an American corporation which was aware of and supported the slave labor, rape and murder of Burmese villagers as they built an oil pipeline from Burmese oil fields through to Thailand.  or if you just look to our present adminstration and it's war profiteering.

I remember hearing shaykh hamza talk about business practices of traditional Islam -- traditionally similar businesses would be next to each other in the bazaar!  there was no sense of competition. and when one seller made enough for the day, he closed up shop and went home -- leaving business for others who needed it.  how far has the business world come, with exploitation and violation of even basic human rights! just to make some money.  the business world is just a collective sabawi nafs, a predatory self, that has not been tempered by spiritual discipline or a sense of ethics.  without a sense of God consciousness there is just no satiation; no amount of money is ever enough, no matter what it takes to acquire it.

we're just living in some sick times  :(

This is a most tyrannical form of social control.

The musician and philosopher Victor Wooten said it best "You know the rules are bent when you have to pay rent - just to live on Earth" in reference to youth violence, poverty and all of the things it entails in the bigger American cities, including substance abuse, crime, lack of opportunity, general apathy and neglect.

It is indeed a very evil system that reserves all rewards for the successful exercise of avarice, selfishness and greed and punishes charity, forebearance, patience....punishes people for being in need and punishes simply being human.

I have always been and remain still of the mind that all things belong to the Creator alone, and are only left in our hands as a trust....that we all have a duty to care for others and know our own temporal nature, and to see that the future generations have a place.

When people yesterday, today and tomorrow start believing they have power, when people start worshipping the artificial power money holds in society...

...when people start acting on those money oriented beliefs, and when they start believing all they hold and desire truly belongs to them.....when they do not realize their final earthly destination 6 feet under and whatever rewards await them beyond....this makes for a society of Frankenstein monsters.

I do not like living among such a predatory society and wish I could find an escape, a new home.

Mr Scott, beam me up - there's no intelligent life here.
