assalamu 'alaykum all,

Insha'Allah all is well with everyone. Zaytuna's winter quarter begins Jan 8th.. Last semester many of us benefited by signing up for the long dist classes and it was awesome to do it with a group of srs and bros..!!! I would definitely recommend people to do it in their communities, and via aim you have direct access to ask questions and stuff :)

Also, fyi  www.sunnipath.com also has some great courses being offered and the timings a lil bit more flexible!

The 40 Hadith of Imam Nawawi

 An explanation of the significance and meaning of the great classic of Islamic literature, the hadith collection known as the “40 Hadith of Imam Nawawi.”  Based on its classical commentaries by Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali and Ibn Hajar al-Haytami, this course will examine relevant legislative rulings based on these hadith, as well as their relevance in our modern context.

 Prohibitions of the Tongue

 A detailed examination of the rules and etiquettes of speech as based on the wisdom of the West African classic, Mahaaram al-Lisaan, and inspired by the prophetic warnings about “the harvests of the tongue.” Not a word does one utter, except that there is an angel watching, ready to record it.  Elementary Arabic: Applied Grammar & Conversation (Part 2)

 An in-depth delineation of the principles of Arabic grammar (nahu and its application.  Advanced Arabic: Morphology and Rhetoric

 An advanced course in the Arabic language for students with significant experience in its study. Including the Arabic sciences of sarf (morphology) and balagha (rhetoric), this course will cover the form and structure of the Arabic language and the advanced form of its use employing the texts Qatr an-Nada, at-Tatbiq as-Sarfi, and al-Wadih fii Balagh. Students wishing to attend this course will need to take a level assessment exam.

 Tajweed: Quranic Recitation

 An introduction to the rules and essentials of Quranic recitation. Based on the widely studied classic al-Tuhfat al-Atfal, this course will assist the beginning student in the important work of refining their pronunciation and proper recitation of the most perfect of speech, the Holy Qur'an.

 Hanafi Fiqh: The Divine Law and Prayer
with Imam Tahir Anwar

 A detailed explanation of the rules and fundamentals of the Divine Law according to Islam's great Hanafi jurists. Based on the widely studied classic, Nurul-Idah ("Salvation of the Soul") by Imam Shurnbilali, this course will cover the basics of prayer (salah, continuing where the Spring 2004 course left off.

 Shafi'i Fiqh: The Practice of the Divine Law

 A series introducing the student to the application of the Divine Law in Islam, as it has been codified and preserved by the great Shafi'i jurists of Muslim history.  Based on Nuh Ha Mim Keller's respected translation of the classic Umdat al-Salik ("Reliance of the Traveler"), this course will cover the principles and fundamentals of worship and daily practice in Islam.
