[slm] I was interested in taking some islamic courses online (rather than waiting around for some amazing sheikh to move into town, or complaining about how I need a teacher to guide me or how scarce real 'ilm is these days ::)). Does anyone have any recommendations? I came across sunnipath.com and from the site it looks affordable (I'm still in college) and I like the flexibility of being able to listen to lectures whenever, but I am not familiar with some of the instructors, and don't know if they have a specific association with some tariqa. Nasiha on this would be great. Jazakumullahu khairan. Your sister in need of 'ilm, Nafees |

[slm] Insha'Allah all is well with you :)... I actually just posted something similar in madina minaret.. But also check out www.zaytuna.org. The winter quarter begins jan 8th and if you get a bunch of people to chip in and do it a halaqa style w/ a group the fruits are so much greater. Personally, for me i do much better in a class room setting sorta thing or even getting your family members together every week works beautifully. Last semester we were blessed to do a long dist course with a bunch of bros and srs and we would gather every sunday at a srs house, who was very gracious to offer her place to us college students and masha'Allah we all had an amazing time... Also, it depends on what you are looking to get out the classes, my older srs, sister in law signed up for the Islamic University courses online and she absolutely loved them.. So whether you are looking for fiqh, tafseer, Tazkiya, General Manners etc is your choice.. I love sunnipath and this semester we are combining classes of sunnipath and zaytuna. But all the bios of the teachers are available... If you got more q's.. e-mail, PM.. Allahu ta'lah alam May Allah(swt) give us all tawfeeq and guide you to the best choice of classes. ameen :) wassalam az |

[slm] Something of interest: If you know people who are recent converts/reverts to Islam (~2 years or less), please pass on this information....it's a great opportunity to benefit. Sign up for the Winter 2005 Semester at SunniPath Academy (www.Sunnipath.com) for FREE courses in Hanafi Fiqh (HF101) and Ghazali’s Ihya Explained - Part 1 (PS101). Those who wish to study Maliki or Shafii Fiqh can get 50% off those! All other courses are at normal cost. Those interested should IM me so I can give you the e-mail of the sister who will pass on the coupon code to sign up for these free and/or discounted courses. Wasalaam. |

[slm] I highly recommend the sunnipath course "Ghazali’s Ihya Explained - Part 1." When I heard the lectures in that course I was surprised by what I had missed and what I had misunderstood from my reading of an english translation of the Ihya. |

[slm] [quote]but I am not familiar with some of the instructors, and don't know if they have a specific association with some tariqa.[/quote] I think you can ask them directly. There are some people on this very board who are affiliated with sunnipath. I hope they can be of help to you. As for my recommendation, I would encourage you to find out about al-maghrib institute ([url]www.almaghrib.org[/url]) or the american open university. There are some wonderful lectures online. Tune in to EmanRush (http://www.emanrush.com/broadcasting.php) this saturday 8th of jan - at 8:30 pm est - the first installment of a 4 part series on imam malik will be broadcast. take care wassalam |

[slm] I would second Mona's recommendation that you take courses at the American Open University: http://www.open-university.edu/ and/or the al maghrib institute http://www.almaghrib.org/ Alhumdullilah the material at these places is sound and has nothing controversial that mainstream Muslims adhere to. Another good place to go would be to visit your local masjid. just go here: http://www.islamicfinder.org enter your zipcode and it will tell you the nearest masjid near you. |

[slm] My husband and I just signed up at American Open University. www.aou.edu for the English version. I have heard good things about the school and it is cheap, as far as universites go. I think that the new semester starts on the 15th, insha'Allah. [wlm] Marcie :-) |

[slm] That's nice that its spreading alhumdullilah. I don't know why they aren't out in California!!! They had something called the Gold Rush, but it only went to northern california and not southern california. |

I signed up for the sunnipath Ghazali’s Ihya Explained - Part 1 (PS101) but I've finding it difficult understanding the guy. Does anyone know about shariaprogram.ca? they have 2month and 6month intensive courses and in April I think they are starting up another online course. They also have a free online learning to read/write arabic script. |
