| [slm] For Eid ul Adha, what are the obligations of the people who are not at Hajj. Is the giving of Qurban (sacrifice) a must? If so, how much per person? eg is it a chicken per person or certain lbs per person? What is the amount of the Zakat that needs to be given? What is this Zakat called?? Jazaka Allah |

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah, from what I know the ahnaaf (those who subscribe to the hanafi school of thought) consider the slaughter a wajib [a must]; while the majority of the scholars consider it a very strongly emphasized sunnah. it does suffice for the head of the household to perform the slaughter on behalf of his family. there is a certain way the animal should be divided; like I know for a camel or a cow it can be divided among seven people, while for a sheep or a goat it can not be divided among people at all. I'm not sure what you mean by zakah, but the meat should be distributed in thirds: on third for yourself, one third for your kin, and one third for the needy. I think the best thing to do would be to google 'rulings on udhiyyah' and read some more detailed articles by a reputed scholar; or alternatively ask someone knowledgeable in your community about these matters. may Allah accept all of our deeds, ameen. wasalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah |
