slm,

Most passports require you to submit a couple of 2x2 pictures. The problem is that they require that you shouldn't wear any headcovering whatsover. (no hat, headscarves, dark glasses, etc)
This is so that your face is cleary visible for identification.
I don't know about other countries. . .but this is what it is said in the US application.
So peoplz..(girls especially) how have you dealt with this? I haven't taken my pics yet. . . but how do I explain to them? Do they require like a letter? from the mosque? maybe?  ???
Jazakallah Khair. . .

slm,

nida you don't have to take your scarf off.. you have to write some paragraph thing about why you wear the hijab.. for blah blah religious reasonings and then they take ur pic.... u are required to show ur left ear or something weird like that but u don't have to take ur scarf off... this is the U.S. Passport.. and all the women of my family have it with hijab... so assert your rights inshaAllah!!

salam,

jannah's right, i had to get m passport renewed last month and so i wrote a nice little paragraph saying that my religion mandated my headscarf. i got my passport w/out any problems :)

the lady at kinko's when i took the pic said they might reject the pic b/c i didn't show my ears, but that they'd take another one for free in case that happened. but since i wrote the nice paragraph, it worked out just fine :)

salam,
ruqayyah
