salaam, I recently found out I'm pregnant. All of a sudden I have these aunties telling me to avoid the solar and lunar eclipse because it causes birth defects. One aunty even told me this was stated in the Qur'an, she didn't know where though. Anyways, I've never heard this before. If anyone knows the validity of this please let me know. thank you |

[slm] just out of curiosity, how would you avoid the eclipse *after* you found out that you are pregnant?? i don't know anything about whether the eclipse would harm the baby. wassalam mona |

[slm] I always thought this was one of my mother's cookey superstition's. When pregnant with my first daughter there was a lunar and solar eclipse forecast and my mother rang me panic stricken to tell me not to do a whole list of things. It didn't really matter as I was doing the eclipse prayers anyways so wasn't about to start [*]chopping/cutting things [*]sweeping [*]brushing my hair Apparantly all of the above and more lead to birth defects, mother however said 'old people say...' So I've no references from either the Quran or the hadith, just my mother's hysterics to go on. Would be interested to know if there actually is a religious basis to this though. In case anyone was wondering, my daughter was born perfect alhumdulillah all appendages accounted for ;) Wassalaam |
