salam alaikum,

hope u all r doing fine by Allah's grace.
wondering, if you are invited by someone to their house and you dont feel so keen.
because you dont have the same chemistry with them and you dont enjoy that talk on stupid
bollywood movies and idiot politicians etc etc. in my case they happen to be my relatives
too.
i am aware of a hadith where in we are supposed to accept invit from fellow muslims and
God's command to keep family bond strong.
so my heart isnot so keen yet i am not able to make excuses.
this time though it is not somekind of formal gathering for someone's marriage or aqueeka
etc. it is just for nothing. it is desi way of calling someone to their house??
eventhough we have met in someone else's place. is weekend hamare yahan aao. yeah man, i am so
lucky ppl call me for the whole weekend :)

i was wondering how would you tackle it or should one go anyway. i guess there are lotta
desis here ;)

salam,

not a desi, but i'll chip in anyway...

it is more polite to go  ... but try to give these people food for thought.  don't just listen to their conversations, just start your own .  don't be shy about it.

take care

as salaamu alaykum,

it's interesting, I've always heard that hadeeth, that when someone invites you to a "waleema" you should attend.. and I always thought that that meant the wedding reception (commonly called the "waleema" or 'valima' if you're desi :)).  I heard just recently that 'waleema' in this text can just mean a gathering or a dinner.. so it's recommended to go whenever a Muslim bro or sister invite you to their home for a meal.  'breaking bread' with someone really does strengthen the ties of brotherhood and sisterhood.

this is the general recommendation.. I think it also depends on the circumstances.. and if there will be things there that take down your eman, etc..

w'Allahu a'lam..
