| The Beasts I saw my brothers killed tonite, in front of my two eyes. though clear it was, that they were men, like cattle, they were felled. and every night I see again, more brothers being killed. beasts in camo brandish guns, to scythe them down like weeds. the beasts march proud beneath a flag, red lines of blood with stars. they trample on through pools of blood by piles of brothers dead. this bloody war we wage, they claim, on terror : for we love peace. they speak of peace, while bombs they plant, reap corpses from my kin. am I to smile? extend my hand? greet them with words of peace? or blind my eyes to growing mounds of brothers with no graves? am i to laugh? or sing a song? while they still hunt us down? and clasp their hands, slick red with blood, from my all my brothers downed? do they think I am a child, who swallows fancy tales? I know they lie to veil the truth :- they wage war on my faith. they wage war on our faith, echo brothers from their graves. they wage war on our faith, a voice echoes in my head. I hear my brothers from the graves, in pleasure, strong in faith. the promised truth has come to them : the afterlife has come. this life is truly false, I see. of illusions, trying faith. now, my love for life has died : I wait to join the dead. bafana |
