alsalamu alaykum wa rhmat Ullahi wa barakatuh,

I need some brainstorming help, please. What are some jum'ah khutbah topics that you've heard OR would like to hear that would help you become encouraged and energised to help out your community? This age group is university/college students

Jazakum Allahu khayra.
walsalamu alaykum wa rhmat Ullahi wa barakatuh.

[wlm]  warahmatullah wabarkatuhu!

I always like topics that deal with the character of the prophet Muhammed  [saw] the most. Followed by, the struggles of early Muslims [May Allah agree with them]. The individual story stand out like Omar [r.a.] beating his brother-in-law [r.a.] and sister Fatima [r.a.] in anger when he comes to know of their becoming Muslim and utimately is so moved to see their standing up to him and seeing the Qur'an first time becomes a Muslim himself. This is so true of so many upright people even today who are enemy of Islam simply because they have not seen the truth as Omar [r.a.] saw in his sister's eyes. Or when Asma [r.a.] and others help Muslims in the battlefield. How Omar [r.a.] entered Jerusalem. It was a historic scene that has not been repeated ever since. I also like the individual gallantry in the battle field. How social evils like slavery was abolished in such a beautiful way. All these are best conveyed when the khatib (orator) can draw parallel with the local society and not said in a 'they were so good that we cant try anything good unless we become this and that'. A speech that ends in a positive note, has a few advice/tip on how to improve ourselves at individual level or at local community level (and not at national/global/khilafa level, they never help) is best absorbed and imbibed. Organizing community events that requires actual  participation (of time and energy) brings closeness among people.
Islam is a way of life and not an ideology. Unfortunately, many good and apparently pious people approach Islam as such and this ends in 'we are right and you're wrong' and sometimes to extreme. We end up in a state where people come to Juma' only to pray as if God really needs our prayer!
Take care and wasalaam wrb
