[slm] "SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: FD&C no. 5 is a synthetic chemical dye, if it is used as a dry color in foods then it is Halal but if it is used as liquid color, they have to use solvent or carrier such as glycerin (pork or beef or plant fat), oil, then it becomes Mushbooh, if there is kosher symbol on the food package containing FD&C 5 or 6 or 40, it means either the color is used as dry or vegetable oil is used as a solvent or carrier." ANY IDEAS IF THIS IS TRUE AND IF SO HOW DO I GO ABOUT CHECKING THIS KIND OF THING??? |

[slm] I don't know if that is true or not, but I know that yellow #5 is tartrazine, which is industrial waste. It can cause allergic reactions and other problems (hyperactivity in children...) and is found in many foods. I would say its best to avoid it either way. [wlm] |
