Adding meaning?

Okay so I didn't know where this should go..maybe one of the moderators can place it where it's better suited.

I thought it would be cool (in fact, let's just say that this is a request), for us to share small ideas on how we could add meaning to our lives to make them less aimless.  (Yes, this is a purely selfish thread, but I figure it could have beneficial externalities, inshaAllah).

These ideas: the less time-consuming, the better :)

JazakAllah Khair in advance.

Wasalaam.

(Addendum: I scratched out the "effortless" bit..thank you MF :) )

Thank you for bringing it up.  I feel like I've been drifting rather aimlessly for a couple of years now, on and off.  There are a few moments that Allah puts a lot of blessing into and out of which a lot of good comes, but otherwise.... Effortless things and things that don't take up any time are what I'm always looking for.
Here's one idea: every once in a while when you go grocery shopping get some milk, diapers, or other necessities for a needy family you know and see a lot, like a janitor at work or someone like that.
Another idea: Save your leftovers (I mean stuff you were going to throw away) for stray cats.
Be kind.
I know you're not going to be making a huge contribution to the world but at what do you want for no effort :D

The Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) made spreading salaam a part of faith. Al-Bukhaari (12, 28 and 6236), Muslim (39), Ahmad (2/169), Abu Dawood (5494), al-Nisaa’i, (8/107) and Ibn Hibbaan (505) narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar that a man asked the Messenger of Allaah  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “What is the best thing in Islam?” He said, “Feeding others and giving the greeting of salaam to those whom you know and those whom you do not know.”

J.O. this was something I talked about in my ramadan diary (saying salaam).  Its actually led to a lot of good in helping building the ties of brotherhood at the masjid I frequent.  Alll the brothers that pray in jamaat there know each other and are happy.

[wlm] wrb,

Hummm, isnt having good intention in doing whatever (halal) we do is itself rewarding? To me that brings meaning to most of the stuff I (consciously) do or I would go crazy living as I do  ::)

Take care and wasalaam,
labeeb  ;-)

PS: How about getting married if you are single, spending some time alone if you are married; getting a job if jobless, cutting time at work if you are over worked, spending time with kids if you dont come across them in your household, sending them out if your house is a zoo of kids etc etc with the niyah of khair in this life and hereafter. None quick and fast 'cos it is devil's way to fast-forward not have patience etc etc.
