Is it Just Me Or?....

Hello i have a question and i was wondering why alot of muslims believe that ONLY muslims will enter heaven/paradise? In my version of the Quran there is a part that says

Thoes who believe and thoes who are jews, christians, and sabeans, [in fact] anyone who believes in God and the Last Day, and acts honorably will receive their earnings from their Lord: no fear will lie upon them nor need they feel saddened. Thus we have made an agreement with you and raised the Mountain over you: "hold firmly to what We have brought you and remember what it contains, so that you may do your duty;" while later on you turn away, and if God's bounty and His mercy had not [rested] upon you, you would have turned out to be loosers! Yet you knew which of you had been defiant on the Sabbath, so We told them: "Become apes, rejected!" We set them up as an illustration of what had come before them and what would come after them, and a lesson for the heedful.

Now if this part
Thoes who believe and thoes who are jews, christians, and sabeans, [in fact] anyone who believes in God and the Last Day, and acts honorably will receive their earnings from their Lord: no fear will lie upon them nor need they feel saddened
is in the quran then where does the thought and belief that this only speaks towards muslims? If i am understand this incorrectly please tell me and correct me.

Verses of the Qur'an have to be understood in context, and in the light of other verses of the Qur'an.  One verse cannot be taken out of context and used to formulate a ruling.  Having said that, I believe the scholars of the Qur'an have opined about that verse that it was abrogated by verses that were revealed later (such as "whoever seeks a way of life [religion] other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him/her [3:85]," etc.)

Scholars also point out that the verse says:

[i]Thoes who believe and those who are jews, christians, and sabeans, [in fact] [u]anyone who believes in God and the Last Day, and acts honorably[/u] will receive their earnings from their Lord: no fear will lie upon them nor need they feel saddened. [/i]

This means that the Qur'an here is referring to those among the Christians who maintained pure monotheistic beliefs after Christ until the advent of Muhammad [pbuh].  We know that historically there *were* groups among the Christians who maintained the belief of One God and that Jesus was only a Prophet (see Gospel of Barnabas, the history of Negus in Abyssinia, etc).  They were a minority among the Christians, as most of them had accepted the teachings of Paul and the concept of Trinity.  However, it is those monotheistic Christians, Jews, and Sabaeans that the Qur'an refers to in the verse above.  In fact, anyone - whether ethnically they were Christians, Jews or Sabaens - who believed in One God and the Last Day, and did righteous deeds was guaranteed Paradise by Allah.  However, the verse was abrogated later because one *had* to believe in the Prophethood of Muhammad [pbuh] *in addition to* believing in One God, the Last Day, and the performance of righteous deeds in order to attain salvation.  The verse above only applied to those who lived before the coming of Prophet Muhammad [pbuh] and/or died before hearing his Message.

This, in summary, explains the verse above.

And Allah knows best.

[slm]..

In your version of the Qur’an……I hope that’s a mistype.  Make it known to everyone Muslims and Non that there is only one version of the Qur’an.

No worries…

The answer to your question and everyone else’s is:  Only Allah (SWT) alone knows your - after this life’s destination whether it be you believe in Him (SWT) or not, whether you obey Him (SWT) or not.  Not every Muslim is going to Jannah and not every non-Muslim is going to Hellfire.  If us Muslims were destined to Jannah then what are we striving for?  If every non-Muslim is going to Hellfire then why even be created?  Allah (SWT) created us to obey and worship Him (SWT).  That’s the only reason why we are created.  Try to make sense out of that and you’ll find your answer.

But still no one truly knows the answer to this but Allah (SWT) and no one needs to know.  Just know that there is an afterlife in Heaven or Hellfire.  You choose where you want to go.

Allahu Alim…

Allah (SWT) bless…

Ma-assalaamah…..
