How should Muslims respond to attacks?

In the media (especially the non-Muslim media), there have been all sorts of attacks on Islam by non-Muslims, orientalists, and people claiming to be Muslims (but who really are spreading false ideas about Islam, such as women leading men in salat in a masjid, or that women don't nead to wear hijab, or that all the problems in the world are to be blamed on the Muslims defending themselves when they are attacked by western countries, dropping bombs on them, etc).

I'm sure like many of you, you must feel something, anger and hurt are some emotions that come to mind.  Perhaps even fear, fear for your own lives and safety.  For some few that are in a worse state, they even question their own beliefs (auzibillah!).  Some of these attacks are not only physical, but psychological, and they have a very lasting impression.

The time is to say enough is enough, something needs to be done.  Any ideas, how we can better educate others, especially non-Muslims?

What do you think of this idea?  Maybe EVERYONE on the board can go create a website, with information on Islam, and correct misconceptions that people have about Islam, and correct the wrong things said by these non-Muslims and these others that are claiming to be Muslim.  And if you do not have knowledge, maybe we can share resources.  Then we can promote these sites on search engines, and that way when anyone does a search on a topic, our sites show up with this information.

Any ideas? ???

Two things come to my mind.

The first thing is that we need to be more sophisticated.  We have people in our communities who have studied journalism, public relations, etc.  Their expertise needs to be tapped and used.

I think one other thing is that when we are presenting Islamic ideals and practices, we need to move beyond many oft-repeated cliches and really get down to addressing some issues.  For example, there is much ado nowadays about women's right to pray in the men's section of masjids and all, and much of our response has been simply to keep saying the same things over and over again about how separate doesn't mean unequal...when in fact, as any Muslim sister can bear witness to, soooo many of our masajid *are* simply abysmal in their (non) accomodation of women.  I don't think there is any sister who has never visited masjid where the brothers' area was nice, well-lit, clean and spacious, and the sisters' section (if it exists at all) was small, cluttered, nasty, accessible only by going down an unlit alleyway, and so on.

This *is* un-Islamic, and when people have extreme reactions to such things, we have tended to dismiss them without taking a hard look at ourselves.

The same thing with this newest thing...in my opinion one of the reasons why some of these arguments are resonating with so many people (even within the ummah) is because most of us have witnessed serious inequalities in our communities with regards to the sisters.  If we don't address and correct them in an Islamic way, this stuff is not going to go away.

Granted, some people simply have agendas, there is no doubt about that.  But as I remember Imam Zaid Shakir saying on so many occasions, if we are doing what we are supposed to be doing, then Allah takes care of those who mean us no good.  We have to start taking care of business.

I think the best way to rebel an attack is to know what that factor being attacked with  is made of before trying to invent insubordinate that might not work ,and to do this I guess we do not have to try to stop what they say since that helps us to use in our mission against them

The things we need to ask ourselves for example is,

*Why are they giving all this effort and time to stain the Islam?
*Do they have more time than we have because we are busy by more important than this?
*Why they are more unified?
*What is needed for that?
We need to know these factors in the first place that enables them attack us so that we can use the same tool against its owner without using another one. When they for instance try to tell we use bombs whilst they give breads we don’t have to be teased and lose control to prove this propaganda, or a part of a truth against our whole UMMAH. what we need is to respond wisely and serenely to nullify this statement practicaly .Therfore we need  try to listen to the end and also be sure these attack wont end, because that makes us feel we will some day take rest after that .The feel for preparation for everlasting attack produces the need and reception for also an everlasting defense
Hence we need to not be surprised by a bad tomorrow as we have to get prepared a worse after tomorrow against them
This can be done peacefully with out using any bombs as they allege by making good relation with their ,families, and children .etc but not to take them in the same category with them as enemies
If we try to help their widow, youth, old, we can make a good alliance from themselves. .we need to start from ourselves by showing how much we are consolidate so that they like to join us
Alongside with this kind of strategy. if we go on talking like them as a defense it will turn to attack with out any crime. The idea of making sites I  think is good

That is what came to my mind any way
