The commercials are talking about revealing the religion of a Survivor player, tonight. There is a guy named Ibraheem. Bet it is him.

I wonder how Islam will be portrayed?

They did a wonderful job. Had a picturesque shot of him making dua and sajdahs.

One of his fellow team mates wanted to vote him off the island. Ibrahem almost got voted out last week. the team mate was a snakey kind of guy and cockily said something to the effect of 'Ibraheem was going to get voted off because his god was Ahhlaah. His ( the snakey team mate)god was going to protect him.'

Ali and I were shouting takbir as the snake didn't get protected and was the one voted off! It was a wonderful teaching moment.

I watched last night's episode and had a couple of questions about it. Was it okay that Ibriham was running around with his shirt off?  Also, did he drink the mai tai cocktails?  ( I didn't see that bit but my husband yelled into me, "I thought Muslims didn't drink.")  I was suprised if he did because he seemed pretty serious about his faith.

We don't know if there was alcohol in the drink, but like i told my son, it is hard to believe he is praying and drinking.

Sure there were a lot of things that were not right, tattoos, purduh etc... i wasn't meaning to set him up as an example of Islam. I was more interested in seing how the media played it and it impressed me.

I am thinking about dawah and my first face to face incredible life altering moment with Islam was watching a man pray. Insha Allah this will happen to others!

slm,

I think that it is very interesting they showed him praying... what an opportunity for him to do dawah....!!! If only he can use it well inshallah.

I checked the ratings for last week (this week not out yet), but 18 MILLION people watched last week's Survivor!!! Can you imagine the impact if the showed someone "normal" as being muslim!!

Assalamo elikuim

We missed it. When does it come ?

ALso, are you guys watching "Contender" ? There are actually two Muslims there. One lost the fight last week. His name was Ahmed. My kids were pretty excited to see a Muslim, but unfortunately they showed his girlfriend etc and not much mention of Islam by him except one time before the fight they showed him making a dua(raising his hands etc.)
Also the other person his name is Tarick, but on contender website my son said that it mentions his favourite bar etc :(
So far it seem like the only good example of Muslim have been Azhar Usman's interview.

Wasalam

I have chosen not to watch it because the main part of the show- boxing-involves hitting the face, something that is not allowed in Islam.

[slm]Yes, I saw Ibrahem on Survivor. It was nice seeing him make salaat but my question too was that did he drink that mai tai stuff? And also he has been hugging the women bare chested  ::). In his defense, it was on the table not in his hand(the mai tai).  We did never did get to see him actually drink it. Allahu Alam!As for the contender, the one muslim guy Ahmed was so in your face with his attitude and had a girlfriend. But the moment I saw him going in the ring to fight saying 'Allahu Akbar' , I was like  :o.There is one muslim guy left...Tariq.Not much has come forward about him, but we'll see inshallah.
