| Assalamu alaikum I have an idea to set up a free site to host a kind of 'online Islamic library'. The idea would be that people donate their Islamic books that they are no longer reading (I am guessing everyone has at least a few of those) and these books are then listed for visitors to use. Those that donate would have to cover postage costs to keep everything simple and visitors would therefore get books free. I think this would serve a few functions. 1. Islamic books are not widely available and this would help people to have access to them. 2. Many people have books that they have read and have no intention to read again. The books would be put to good use and you get to clear space on your shelf! 3. Not everyone can afford to buy new books. 4. For non-muslims interested in Islam this would be a nice way to introduce them to the religion by providing free literature for them. 5. Of course you get the reward, inshallah, of offering this gift/donation to others. 6. The idea is not to take money away from the author/publisher. These books have been orginally paid for and we are not making copies of them -or making profit from re-selling. It is simply allowing one more person to read it - the same as if you lent it to a friend. 7. With your book donation you can also leave feedback on the book and that would inshallah help to get more people reading. Please let me know what you think. | [slm] your_sister, Good idea, how about if I could scan some of the skinnier paper-backs, could you put those on the site you're creating? Or, would that be cutting into like copyright boundries? If it's okay, then several people could have reading access to the same book at the same time. You could even set up a "Feedback: (so & so book's name) book club" or something. [wlm] p.s. send address for where to mail books if we can't scan them. Also... There's also a UK based website called www.trueway.tk where you can get FREE Islamic multimedia. Check it out, it may help with your cause. |

| Salam Your help is needed! The initial response to the site was very good. However, there has not been much active participation. This site is for you! If you want books or tapes then come and get them. If you want to earn some reward inshallah then please consider donating. All details are on the site. If you are in the UK and want to help advertise the site then please get in touch. I have a stack of advertising cards that can be handed out at events and the mosque. Remember though that you can order books from anywhere in the world. Wassalam |
