| [slm] this was a really sad documentary...it highlighted the fact that the ban is not about secularism, equality or integration, but racism. They really have an irrational fear of "hijab", ie, people looking like Muslims. It's one thing to say that the ban covers other religious symbols, but it was clear from the documentary that Muslims were targetted the most...at one point a Sikh boy was allowed into the school no questions asked even though his hair was covered in a way most of the Muslim girls would have been ok with (compared to the bandanas), but the Muslim girls were stopped and inspected to make sure their bandanas weren't covering too much! I pray for all the women in this situation as they're showing courage, determination and patience...may Allah reward them and make some good come out of this situation. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/this_world/4366147.stm |
