Al-Azhar Likely to Allow Restricted Gender Choice

Al-Azhar  is going to say that choosing the sex of the child is okay in certain circumstances like for medical reasons. I think that sounds okay like if there is a high chance that a male child will have hemophilia. But I think Al-Qarawai's  reasons are unethical saying that "if a woman only gives birth to girls and her marriage is threatened by this she can seek a doctor help in determining the sex of the fetus." This is wrong, such behavior by men should be condemned not condoned.

wlm,

in a perfect world....etc. etc.

but practically speaking some men would divorce a wife if she doesn't give birth to a boy (even tho its men who determine the sex of the child!) so if its before the soul date and she's already given birth to a few girls then what's wrong with that?

yeah I know in a perfect world men wouldn't issue such threats but I'm saying it's wrong because only God has the right to choose the sex of a child. He determines everything for a reason not just on some sort of whim. And the effects of allowing sex-selection in already sexist socities can be seen in India where the enormous use of this type of abortion is skewing the gender ratio in some villages and just furthering the devaulement of female life. When Islam came it condemned infanticide not just for moral reasons but for social ones as well, it was meant to improve the status of women. Centuries later, we are regressing by allowing this new form which we can't fully call infanticide because it is before the soul is breathed into the child but which essentially produces the same result of lowering the status of females.
