Why doesn't Islam allow free sex for consenting adults?

also (unrelated from my part, but perhaps related in answer)

Why is a Muslim man allowed to marry four women?

hi,

it doesn't allow dating/sex because islam is a religion of modesty and protection for men and women.  once two people commit to each other than they are allowed to have an intimate relationship and there is no stigma about it. this no way no one is using anyone else and society is based on morals and relationships between men and women that are non-sexualized.

as for the polygamy thing here's a good article that goes into it in depth:

Jannah this statement is a bit confusing to me. When I read it
I was like >>>> :o

It sounds like you are saying once two people commit to each other
they can have intimate relations??? Are you saying even before marriage?
This is the way it sounds. If this is not how it is meant, then I figure
further explaination is in order in case others are confised as I was.

In societies where "free sex for consenting adults" is the practiced normal, theres a lot of things we can see that really arent that good.

First of all, if you're from the slightlier ghettoer part of the city, or maybe this is just unique in my area but i doubt it, there are crazy amounts of pregnant girls who never intended to be or wanted to be pregnant. Alot (maybe most) of them aren't even sure who the father is.

Next things is that its easy to see how sex is starting to control those societies. How many "sex scandals" do u see taking place over the course of the week in one city alone? Aside from that people start feeling like having sex with whoever they want is the way to go, and then we see alot of things like rape happening all around.

Gettin your freak on isnt such an important thing in life ne way if sum1 can learn to suppress that part of themselves for a while. Maybe not such a good analogy, but it's like ice cream... sure people like ice cream, but u can live without it. Where'd the blushing smiley go ::)

Having four wives is an unrelated topic, because anyone who married for wives just because they wanted to get really busy with them, wow thats not really worth the trouble. As far as my limited understanding goes, practising polygamy is best used to be able to take care of widows, or in situations where the number of women could outnumber the men (such as after war). I don't think it applies as much in these days n times as it did many years ago, but polygamy can still be a usefuland constructive thing in some societies or situations. By having more than one wife, a man obligates himself to take good care of them and their children... I'm not trying to start an argument here but I think polygamy would be harder for the man than the woman, if he was following proper Islamic ways. esp. wit 3 or 4 wow
