[slm] 1 quick answer :) ____________ no, not normally :) OK, a slightly larger answer: we are judged by our actions and our niyyah innamal aamalu binniyyah but there are occassions when the thought or niyyah is sufficient, like: if two Muslims point their swords at each other without a shariah reason, and one of them dies, both will go to hell. Why? One killed the other, but the other intended to do so. Similarly, when one intends to do some good, it is written as a good deed, and if he dies before doing it, it is still recorded as a good deed. OK, this was a very laymanish answer, and there are some who are far more knowledgeable than me, and I should have kept quiet, but maybe this amateurish answer will prompt a scholarly one. :) Yo jannah :) ________ thoughts [i]invariably[/i] lead to actions invariably? :scratches head: |

[slm] I was looking for tha hadith about getting a good deed, timbuktu was quoting, but could not find it. But came accross this in Islam Q&A The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah will forgive my Ummah for whatever crosses their minds, so long as they do not act upon it or speak about it. |
Evil Vs Virtue ...... |

[slm] Well the ruling what I can recall is that "When we intend to do something bad it's not counted unless we do it practically and even when we do it practically it's counted only one time but on the other hand if we intend to do some thing good it is counted as a virtue and when we practically do it then it's counted more than one virtue" ..... Allah knows the best ...... |

[slm] So you guys know the Book of Assistance? Anyway, my memory is ridonkulous, but I remember reading that in that book that you are rewarded for good intentions but not penalized for bad intentions. And if a bad intention turns into a bad action you get 1 bad deed. But if you do a good deed (regardless of intention) you get 1 good deed up to 70 good deeds. I think I've been playing too much PS2. That sounds like a game: "collect 1 and get 70" ... Wasalaam. |

[slm] jazakhilakhair for all ur replies asked my religion teacher that once and she also said we're not judged 4 quick question number 2 (sorry!) ur intention (niyya) comes from heart/head??? (how do u 'know' its ur intention?- meaning you know why you're doing something, but try to change why your doing it?? e.g. going to help someone for Allah (swt) but u also want to be recognised, but keep telling yourself your helping for Allah swt) probably don't make sense [slm] :-) |

[slm] As far as I know, your intention comes from the heart. The purity of your intention depends on the state of your heart. If you fear that your doing a good deed just so people notice you then it is better to do it privately. Allahu A'lam |

[slm] Can I just say that during Ramadan, I am pretty sure your fast isn't accepted for the day if you even just think something bad about someone.....not sure this needs to be looked into further. Also, a muslim is also suppost to be as positive and happy as often as possible.....al the time Here is a post that I wrote about negativity..... I heard an interesting metaphor about the heart that may be of interest to this subject. It goes: The heart is like an ocean, with many lakes. (The lakes could be seen as the valves and so forth,) If you pollute one of these lakes, than you intern pollute the ocean as well. So guard the things you see, hear, think, taste, touch or whatever because all these things can affect your heart. Another one: Watch your thoughts, for they become words; Watch your words, for they become actions; Watch your actions, for they become your character; And, watch your character, for it becomes your destiny. Having looked at these two sayings, I would say that negativity can definetly have a HUGE impact on others. A muslim should always try to be positive and happy, I think this is important because it helps us remember that we don't have power over our lives, everything comes from Allah. We should all learn to say AL Humdulileh! And ask for patience in each test and be thankful for our ease. [wlm] |

wlm, "am pretty sure your fast isn't accepted for the day if you even just think something bad about someone" ?? if that was true none of us would have our fasts accepted!!! again... i asked a scholar and he said thoughts were not accepted as deeds... however remember that Allah does know our thoughts and intentions and the acceptance of deeds and actions do depend on our intentions |

Ok now I'm a bit confused. Are we or are we not judged and / or rewarded for our intentions? Like if we wanted to do something good but were unable. Or if someone wanted to do harm but did not. And are not intentions also thoughts where action has not been taken? |

[quote]Are we or are we not judged and / or rewarded for our intentions?Like if we wanted to do something good but were unable [/quote] If we have a good intention but were not able to do it we are rewarded for that even if the actions did not take place and if we had bad intention and do not do it , we are not punsidhed for that intention, but if that means changing mind to not take the action we on contrary be rewarded for changing mind to not do that bad thing |

salam, we get judged on our actions and deeds... but a deed could be good or bad depending on our intention... like for example praying... we could pray for showing off to other ppl and that's a bad deed, but if we prayed for Allah that's a good deed the point is if someone has a "bad thought" or "thought about doing something bad" but never did it... it is not a "deed or action" and is not counted! |
