| [color=green] [slm]I must admit I happened to catch a show on the internatinal Tv yesterday afternoon.I'm not indian but I have grown up knowing a lot about this culture and watching the movies.Back then, they had moral lessons and showed stories with substance.I was young but I remember, Rekha, Mithun, Zeenat Amman, Amitabh etc .Not anymore, now there are less clothes, people gyrating to some very sexual moves and shallow stories! hmmm... They had on the 'American Desi' this weekend on TV.What really gets me is when they insist on having a someone potray a muslim character or what they think is the way muslims behave ???( the 'muslim guy made salah in a weird way I have never seen before!) stopping to talk to people and going back to salah ::).It doesn't help that I watched Fiza last weekend, with a muslim mother commiting suicide, the bro becoming a terrorist and the sister marrying a hindu(with the Amma's blessing!).I remember someone here commenting on Veer Zara, and worshipping at the gravesites :o.What's up with Bollywood, I feel if they are going to potray a muslim, they should do some research.You would think that the muslims they have in the industry would at least try to make sure of that.Maybe am asking too much but I just wanted to share this... :-[ ;) Ummnajmah[/color] |

| [slm] i know i agree, in movies the muslims be prayin all weird and stuff ??? they do need to make some research :-[ ya knoe what i mean ;D like in the movie Blackhawk down or whatever its called.. they be stereotyping too.. |

| it's naive to think that their portrayal of muslims acting weird is out of ignorance! they know very well how muslims are, what they believe, in and how they pray! and even if they don't, they could find out very easily if they wanted. but they don't *want* to portray a normal muslim. they want to portray what they are portraying. for one reason or another. and the reasons do vary. not all bollywood movies are the same. some have a moral to the story, and some are sheer entertainment. some have a different storyline, some are the same-ole-romeo-juliet type. some are artistic, some are violent. some use cool computer technology, some use ghetto technology. some are more decent, some are more provocative. there is bad and worse in bollywood (i wouldn't say good and bad), but it's definitely not all the same. if i were you, i wouldn't waste my time watching that cr** though. wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah. |

| [slm] Sorry if this is not "bollywood" but uh, I remember watching arabic movies - the ones in black in white. ;) Oh boy! They were the best! They had a great story attached to it, and some were extremely hilarious. Man, I love those movies, and now they are coming up with all this cr*p. I would beg for those old movies to be on 24/7. I don't know if this had anything to do with the topic, but um.. those movies were great!! [wlm] |
