It has been an interesting one week in Manhattan.  With the meeting I am attending taking a full day but I have had the chance to walk around and see more.  I must say that exploring on foot give one the opportunity to experience more than you would in a car, bus or even the subway.

I have been here before in 1999 for two weeks with my sons and it is lots of fun touring, discovering and experiencing with them which I always do but this time round, I am doing alone.  Plus the few friends I know here all want me to stay with them and lunch and dinner invitations abounding.

It has been fun.

Tomorrow I am off to Canada, INSHA-ALLAH.

Right Kathy .... so close, but too far... especially since I tried very hard to look around for your car when I was passing your neighbourhood!  Turning this way and that way tring to imagine which one was it.  My neck was aching by the time we cleared your neck of the woods...

Thanks, jannah.  No wonder I could not recognize the kathy-mobile very cool car.  I was looking for an every day kind of ordinary car.  And Kathy, remember what you told me about your car......

Insha-Allah, if there will be a next time, may be ..... I will try to find you New York people.

For now, I am in Toronto where, unfortunately, JustOne is not, but there are a great number of people here I know personally plus I hope to see another of this board here, Biidnillah.

wlm,

mmmm i was gonna get him like an islamic book or something but then i remembered back to those eid dinners when we were little where we would all grab a gift out of a bag.. and the kids that got the books and educational stuff pens papers etc would be like "oh man!!" and the kids that got the toys and candy were all cool and envied;)
You are so right!

I learned this the hard way last year. I got all the kids these really cool looking glittery pencils with the masjid's library's name on it for Eid ul- Fitr.  I made sure they were #2 so they could use them in school.
I heard too many 'ohman' and saw disappointed faces! It just killed me! When i found a couple lying around the masjid, I knew it was a lousy idea!

So for Eid-ul-Adha, I made Kaba looking candy bags, put a compass (with a marking of the Quibla) and candy! Kids were diving over each other to get a bag!

[slm] All,

I arrived here yesterday through Detroit from Toronto, Canada.  Visiting my cousins who live here who said I can not go back without passing by.  So, here I am in another U.S. State.  I fly to New York on Sunday to board my Amsterdam flight that night, INSHA-ALLAH.

My cousin is a Deputy Headmistress at the Greater Lansing Islamic School.

Shukran, Sis Trustworty.

One day, insha-allah, I will visit Washington area.  It is one of the places I would like to see.

I attended yesterdat the graduation ceremony of the eight graders of the Islamic school of greater Lansing since the school was closing for the summer holidays and it was a sight that filled my heart with joy! Five year olds doing a ritual of the hajj, others reciting the Holy Qu'ran, etc.  I am glad I had the chance to see children in an Islamic school in U.S.A. ALHAMDU LILLAH.

I arrived here on Monday at noon after leaving New York on Sunday night at 11:30 pm.  The difference in North American and European summers are great indeed.  Where the tempatures where sweltering in Toronto, Lansing and New York, it is cold here by the standard I left behind.

The skies are grey with bits of sunshine, drizzling rain and a cold breeze.  This is the second time I am witnessing this having been here with my sons in 2002, 3 weeks in Holland and 3 weeks in London.

Yesterday, I was invited out by sister, her husband and their neighbours a Moroccan couple and their daughter.  I was taken for sight seeing in the Hague.  Visited the International Tribunal Court in the Hague and its prison.  They went on to inform me that here is where Milosovic is jailed!  Next was a place where you see the whole of Holland in one place where there is a replication of each town and city but rain spoiled the remainder of the tour! Then followed the beach but all we could do is watch it from an indoor pier because of rain again.

Finally and the best part was a dinner at a Moroccan Restaurant.  We were given Moroccan Tea and sea food made the Moroccan way!  It was delicious and the ambience of the retaurant was complimented by Moroccan Music in Arabic of course!

All in all, it was a great day.  I leave Holland Sunday night for home, Kenya, arriving in Nairobi early Monday morning, INSHA-ALLAH.
