does anyone know of any good online stores where you can purchase modest
western clothing for Women?
like some nice long tops, and maybe hijabs, etc?
i have been looking but found only about 2-3 good ones. but all their clothing is very
plain, and doesn't have an extra something to it.

www.alsundus.com  They have cutom made dresses for your size as well.  Send them your size (measurements) and the dress you want to purchase.  You can also give them ideas of what you want made for you (or is that only because my cousin and I meet her personally and she said she would do it.  She said she does it so....doesn't hurt to ask.

They also have Halaal skittles for $25.00 each..........................yup each.  Each box of 48.  :D

Have fun shopping.

as salaamu alaykum,

this is a nice site, the company is owned by a friend of a friend of mine...

http://www.hayaclothing.com/default.aspx

I really like the simplicity of the clothes, and I've been thinking about buying one of their long tops for ages.. it's just a bit out of my price range..

I like this top and think it would look so nice on jeans or wide leg pants:

as salaamu alaykum,

I just re-read your original post.. you're right a lot of the clothes are somewhat simple/plain.. what you can do is wear a shiny or funky hijab  :-), like sometimes I wear all black and then wear a dupatta (the kind that comes with a shalwar kamees, that has really nice embroidery and print on it)

or even if you prefer plain hijabs, you can get some really pretty pins (hijab pin styling is taken to new heights here in houston :)  I don't think I've seen so many different shapes and colors and styles of hijab pins before in my life) you can see some examples of these on that above mentioned link, at the hijab shop.

or you can purchase those thin, shiny muffler-type scarves and just wear them around your neck over your hijab..

happy styling :)

A friend shared this site with me recently and I thought i'd share it here, as I've found so many hijabi items and reasonably priced. Its an American online catalogue site - there are probably many more similar sites out there, so its good to keep an open mind ;) Here's the address: http://www.newport-news.com/default.asp click on clearance and then winter deals, I came across a lot of long tops, dusters, amazing skirts, wide pants, the only thing that got me down was the shipping price to Canada  ::) But gave me lots of inspiration to do some sewing of my own.

Anyways enjoy :)

I agree with you on shukr - very nice but very pricey!!

A good site I came across:  www.hijabonline.co.uk

The sister makes custom made jilbaabs, and I've ordered a couple - mashaAllah they are very well made.   :-*

Hope this helps inshaAllah.

When I went to an Islamic Convention in California there was a masjid w/ a halal food shop attached to it or next to it. There was a vending machine in it with skittles and starburst and I asked the man and he said that he called the company and they said it was beef gelatin ?

Assalamu Alaikum
Hi sisters...I love to window shop online and a recently found some sites that I've never run across before that are worth mentioning:

www.justlongshirts.com   Yes, exactly as the name says, some great casual blouses and choices for working out in.

www.easternvogue.com  Some gorgeous abayas

www.2hijab.com

Some others that I like that havent yet been mentioned:
www.islamicboutique.com They've got some kickin new abaya and jilbab designs.

www.caravansaray.com they've got the haya line and also rabia designs which is pretty "western"

www.primomoda.com VERY CUTE and western. . . reminds me of the clothes by tekbir

As for the skittles and starburst thing, a sister I know emailed the company and that is also what she was told, that they were beef.
