[slm]....

True story.

My cousin, may Allah (SWT) forgive him and continue on leading him on the straight path, invited his girlfriend to embrace Islam.  She comes from a strong Buddhist family, but she was in love with my cousin.  However because she was born and raised Buddhist, she had to make sure that if she was going to convert, it had to be worthy enough to convert to because her parents were of course, obviously, against it.  So she decided to read books and question her boyfriend about Islam.  He told her what he knew about it which was not very much, so one day he brings her to my house.  I was expecting them because my Aunt had called me earlier and told me everything that was going on and she wanted me to be the one that guided her.  Teach her Qur’an, hadiths, prayer, etc.

So they arrive at my house and the first thing I thought was, “You!!!!” And looking at her, I thought, she’s so young (17, I believe).  I know she’s going to convert for the wrong reasons which is just to be with my cousin.  So I welcome her in my home and I asked first things first, tell me truthfully why you are here to my cousin.  He tells me “Ustadth (our Imam, his teacher) is going to give her a convert exam and we want you to help her pass it.” which made me more angrier and so I said to him, “Because you are the youngest, don’t think that you can get away with anything.  Because you are the youngest, you will not get away with anything.  That’s not a good reason for you to be here.  Leave the house for a moment and I will have her call you when we are done.”  He looks at his girlfriend, sweating at the same time, she looks at him frightened also sweating, he takes her hand and squeezes it, gets up and leaves.

He comes to the window and I shut my blinds.  So I ask her the same thing and she says she wants to convert.  So I ask her more questions like why do you want to convert and she then talks about how she is confused with Buddhism.  I ask her, you know that there are other religions around, have you looked at any of those.  She says only a little, but Islam was what she found to be the better religion.  So tell me then about your journey with finding Islam to be the better one.  So she tells me how she’s read books and what my cousin has told her.  He’s also given her books to read.  So then I ask her what do you know about Islam and she tells me the basic stuff, 5 pillars, etc.  She’s feeling a little more comfortable now and so I ask her, “Do you love (my cousin)?”  And she says, “Yes I do.”  So phen I tell her, “To be a true Muslim, you will have to love Allah (SWT) a thousand more times then you love (my cousin), your parents, family, this world and yourself.  Until you accomplish that, you won’t feel what Islam is all about.  Islam means submission to God.  SUBMISSION to GOD.  You have to be a Muslim only for Him (SWT) and Him (SWT) alone.  That is full and complete faith. Blah….blah…blah….”  She says, “I understand.”  So we talk some more and then I told her to call (my cousin) to come back.

He returns and he looks at her and goes to grab her hands.  She moves away and told him, “Nooooo.  We are not married yet, we can’t be holding hands anymore.  No kissing.  And we can’t be alone anymore together”  He looks at her like “WHAT!!?” and she says to him, “It will be a test for the both of us.”  So he looks at me and I am smiling BIG.  I give her the ins and outs of how we dress, how we act, rules, etc.  Then I ask her, “What else do you want to know about Islam?”  She asks and I answer and show her how to pray.  She had a lot of questions and some of which were contradictive of what others said, but mine came with explainations and reasoning.  So (my cousin) tells her that’s why Mom told us to come here.  I gave her more books on Islam.  The last thing I told her was, “Don’t convert for the wrong reasons and if you want to find out what is right look for answers from the Being (SWT) that created you.”

So she comes and goes with questions and then one day after feeling that she was sincere about converting, I told them, “OK, you’re ready for your exam” because our Imam will not marry them unless he knows for sure that she is sincere about her conversion.  I go with them for her support and Al-hamdulillah she passed.

I take them out to eat last night and we got to talk bout this and that and I asked her, “So how did you know that Islam was the right religion?”

This is her answer, “I did what you said and asked my Creator (SWT) to guide me in the right path, to show me somehow.  That night, I fell asleep and I had this dream.  I was standing in mid air and below me was burning heat.  When I looked down, I saw all of my cousins down there crying in pain and I started to feel my body and face starting to burn so I looked up to move my face away from the heat and looking up I felt a cool mist.  So I started to move up cause who wants to be burned and as I move up, I felt a cool breeze and there was white mist to cool my body.  When the white mist went away, everyone was wearing all white gowns and praying.  I was in the back with all the women and the men were up front.  I was also in white.  That’s how I knew Islam was the right religion.”  Because she was in Jannah, that is the name they will give their baby girl which will be coming soon next month, insha-Allah.  So I asked her if I could share this with others and she happily agreed.

May Allah (SWT) guide us all to and on the right path. (Ameen.)

Allah (SWT) bless....

Subhan Allah, that was magnificent. Allah {swt} will bestow his guidance on who he pleases. Barak Allahu Fiki...
This story reminds me of two other stories:

1. The first story i read in an arabic newspaper published in Saudi Arabia, called
al-muslimeen, it had printed a story stating that a Scottish Scholar kept on
having dreams about the beloved prophet  [saw] and there were no muslims
around in his city, and the prophet  [saw] spoke to him in arabic and he
understood and answered back in arabic. Those dreams led him to embrace
Islam, after investigating the dreams and islam.

2. The second event is that I know a Thai person who told me a story. She said
that she has a friend who is one of the servants to the king of thailand, and
for several nights, she kept seeing herself in a dream inside a masjid, listening to
the azan and praying behind the beloved prophet  [saw] , later she also
embraced islam but secretly as not to incur the wrath of the king, and she still
   works in his palace.
