Requiem for the Lost

Bismillah

Loss..a simple word that conjures up dreadful associations in the deepest recesses of our mind and heart. Loss..a word that instills the darkest of fears, afraid of what might be taken away from us. Our health ? Our wealth ? Our beloved ? No, it does not bear thinking. The mere thought of it bringing on spasms of pain..rippling through our soul as soft but powerful shudders of horror.

Too often we hear people advising someone who lost to be strong, to be patient, to accept. How futile can words be when sometimes understanding silence comforts more. How bitter the taste of pity disguised as sympathy, the meaningless echo of oft whispered soothing nothings.

Losing my sanity many years ago, I was protected from understanding my loss by a dazed existence. Coming back to sanity, if ever there is sanity, was just the next stage of existence. Losing my wealth brings physical discomfort and nothing more, made up by the knowledge that my wealth is the small bargain for my mom's happiness.  Being poor is not without its compensation for one truly starts to learn to appreciate the small things in life.

One loss I have grieved deeply and bitterly, an unbearable pain etched deep into my heart, stamping my soul with a sense of profound helplessness. The loss of my dreams, a loss I am still struggling to comprehend. You can lose what you never had. With this loss, what do I have ? An alternative reality that is mine. For now, for how long.

Wassalam

Ustadha Umm Wafi, surely your dreams must have been very noble that you are so sad about them. So many abideen would happily trade your sorrow over your noble aspirations for their many hrs of dhikr and nawafil.

Hazrat Ali (karam-Allahu wajhu) said:

I recognized Allah through the breaking of my aspirations.
