I am having difficulties with my direction and
beliefs. I'm sure this is in part from not getting
actively involved in an islamic center and
surrounding myself with other sisters.
Please, any words or encouragment, wisdom
and your duas are appreciated.
Guess you may of noticed I have no posted
much in a while. But I do think of you all often.
I do swing by and read a thing here or there.

wlm,

welcome to the club azizah.. islam is indeed a lifelong struggle to keep trying to get closer to God. sometimes we are so close, othertimes our direction is wrong and we end up taking steps away from God. sometimes we get closer to God with our good deeds, and then our sins take us further from Him. So... I pray that you can find your way inshaAllah and its definitely important to have support around you, whether that be in books/tapes/cds where you are increasing your knowledge and belief or in good sisters and brothers around you.

the prophet saw said a sheep alone will always be eaten by wolves, so the believer should always try to be in the company of good muslims. if you don't have good muslims around you than you are constantly influenced by other things, its either one or the other even if we keep telling ourselves that we are strong enough not to be influenced. i noticed that among the girls that start hijab.. 6 months later... it is always the one's that have friends that wear hijab that are still wearing it, the one that didn't have any hijabi friends end up taking it off.

wlm, and remember we're always here for u :)
Hugs

Dear sister Azizah

We have so many of us grown together on this Board. We cry together, get mad together, laugh together...but we grew. I have had the pleasure of watching you grow so much over the past years and I make du'ah that Allah SWT will continue bestowing on you the amazing courage and strength He has given you to be who you are today.

In today's world, its hard to be good period. Hard to even know what is good nowadays. Even harder is to believe in being good and sticking to it no matter what, regardless of religion. After so many years of searching, what made u finally cross the final hurdle and be a Muslim ? That catalyst, that spur is within you. You just have to start seeking it again, to ensure that it keeps reminding you of who you are as a person, what you are as a person.

Its very tough being in an alien environment, an environment that is devoid of Islamic spirituality. But sister, believe me when I tell you that this lack of Islamic environment can be prevalent in a society with many Muslims. Its even worse sometimes knowing u are surrounded by so many Muslims yet u see them baring their awrah in immodest clothing, exposing the tattoos they sport within. Astarghfirullah.

In these crazy times, even in the quietest moments when u feel that your resolutions are in danger of being weakened, be true to yourself. Be true to the person you have chosen to become. Be true to the ideals and beliefs that made you take your shahadah. Even the strength of the spirit will be rewarded by Allah SWT.

And make tons of du'ah, for your salvation rests with Almighty Him..not anyone else.

Hugs for u.

Wassalam

as salaamu alaykum,

one of the most oft-repeated prayers of the prophet muhammad [saw] was:

Ya Muqallib al quloob, thabbit qalbee 'alaa deenik.

oh You who controls hearts, make my heart firm in Your faith.

some food for the soul :)

salaam,
