Are we a spirit in an earthly shell?

Are we a spirit in a shell of a body? The weirdest tying happened to me yesterday. I felt like I could feel my spirit as a seperate energy from my body. It was like woaaaaaa, when I realized it. Kind of spooky and kind of strange. My spirit felt like Hey what amd I doing in THIS body. Has anyone ever felt this? Is our body just an earthly shell?
