Do you think 15 is too young to start wearing niqaab?...my family seems to think so .When I told my mom she said that I should wait until I graduate or until I get married, but I really want to wear it ...what do you think I should do?

JazakAllah Kheir

Why do you want to begin wearing one?
All those reading... this is a topic that often gets heated...can we keep it simple?

My first thought was of what usually happens in the real world. The moment the sis is out of the house, the hijab comes off and the make up on! Kind of refreshing that you feel the way you do!

Well Even before I started wearing Hijab I always knew I wanted to wear niqaab when I started wearing Hijab. It's kind of indescribable. I just find it very beautiful, how the women that wear it can wear it. There's so much modesty involved, I would just love to wear it. i really can't explain it , sorry ::). Also I made isthikara on this subject and I heard one answer you'd get is that Allah (SWT) would make the matter harder for you and it seems as though it has been. I mean evryone I tell ,except a few people, are just like no you shouldn't wear it you're kind of young. And no one will take me to get it. It's just become unneccesarily difficult. And I was thinking that this could be the answer to my isthikara. BUt I mean even though it's become so hard I still have that drive and love to wear it.

JazakAllah ,
Confused Sis.

I myself wear niqaab Alhamduillah. When I wore it, I was 15. That was 5 years ago.

It was always something I wanted to do, since forever.

I find it freeing, intimate and strengthening.

When I put it on and go out into the world, I don't feel ashamed or embarrased, rather I feel strong. It is such a powerful statement...Without saying a word.

And I walk with pride. Pride for being a Muslimah, Alhamdulillah, a strong one.

One thing I wish people, muslim and non-muslim, would understand about my niqaab is that I am not forced by anyone, father, brother, husband or religion, to wear it. It is my choice, made in my heart. I AM happy wearing it and will for as long as I can inshallah...

Did you make istikhara when you first decided to or did you just go for it. I did (as my post above says) and I think the outcome is to not wear it since so many things have become difficult to deal with. I'm not sure a lot of people are discouraging me so I thought I would wait until the second semster next yr. and start then inshAllah. JazakAllah Kheir. :( Allah swt knows best so there's a wiser wisdom behind this and inshAllah I'll try at the end of the yr.

 no disrespect intended.

Isn't it going beyond what is required?

I always understood that the hijab was the item required, not niqab?

and I apologize in advance if I'm not supposed to be in this area.

Sure you can be in this area. Whether niqab is or not required is up for debate, so we are not going to go there. Many scholars say yes, many say no. If we choose to debate it, the thread will disintigrate.

I am finding the above posts refreshing. It is kinda like seeing into her world of her struggles and finding herself in her most innermost thoughts. In a curious way, I would like to read others thoughts and travels into wearing niqab.

I don't wear niqaab so I'm not sure what advice I could give you but I can tell you that at the Islamic school I work at, we have girls younger than 15 wearing the niqab.  it's only a couple of girls but for them, wearing the niqab is very normal and a part of their daily routine of keeping covered.  the other girls look up to these girls which I think is pretty cool because they respect their choice and they probably perceive them to be quite pious! So 15 is not too young in my eyes.

I myself had preconcieved ideas about niqaabis but meeting niqaabis and working with ladies who wear niqaab has totally changed my mind.  Some ladies just prefer the extra cover but it doesn't disrupt their life in any way.
