[slm] Those weren't hard questions. :D I know what you mean about Imaam Shafi's Risalah, and am in the same boat as you on that subject. Everyone, don't all rush at once to answer. ;) I asked some other people on a different message board the same questions, and here's what some of them said: Quote: Number of books you own? No idea. Quote: 5 books that mean a lot to you I don't know about 'mean a lot', but a cross-section of books that I like a lot (and that haven't already been mentioned): Arabic: al-Ta'beer al-Qur'aanee by Dr. Faadil al-Saamirraa'ee Deewaan al-Shaafi'ee by Imam al-Shaafi'ee 'Ushshaaq al-Hoor by 'Abdullaah 'Azzam Mu'jam al-Furooq al-Lughawiyyah by Abu Hilal al-'Askaree Fiqh al-Lughah wa Sirr al-'Arabiyyah by al-Tha'aalibee English: In Pursuit of Allah's Pleasure Lane’s Lexicon by E.W. Lane Ancient Wisdom, New Spirit by Peter Ralston The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand (had to say it) Lila: An Enquiry into Morals by Robert Pirsig I also really liked Plato's Republic, but not for this list . Quote: The book that you are reading for so long but can't finish Islamic Historiography by Chase F. Robinson |

The first four books have been course texts for modules I've studied with my college and so I've had to read them repeatedly and ended up growing close to them. They are obvious titles but I guess the reason books like these are so popular is that they are very good. Studies in Hadith Methodology and Literature - M.M.Azami Amazing book, really puts into perspective the meticulous way in which the Sunnah has been preserved. An Introduction to the Science of Hadith - Suhaib Hasan I've read this so many times, excellent and concise covering of the topic. Helped me memorise and understand various terminology. Fundamentals of Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism) - Bilal Philips A book I should have read earlier than I did but have read it numerous times since. Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence _ Mohammad Hashim Kamali Currently the best book in English on usool (Allaahu A'lam), I'm constantly dipping into it. Pity the Nation - Lebanon at War - Robert Fisk Thought I'd pick a different one here. The author's writing descriptive writing style and his vivid account of his experiences touched me when I read it. [slm] Due to lack of time i haven't ben purchasing or reading boks as much as i use and would have liked to. I find getting a lecture or some such on a DVD and listenig to it whilst on the road, fills the gap for me until i find the time again, Insha Allah. I like Moulana Suliman Moola - you can listen to some of his lectures from this site : http://www.dawahacademy.com/ *Number of books you own? This is changing all the time. I have the habit of recommending books to people and then taking it off my shelf and handing it to them.... *5 books that mean a lot to you When you Hear Hoofbeats think of a Zebra by Shems Friedlander - very quick and entertaining read about the Sufi way of Life. Ar Raheeq - Life of the Prohpet SAW - very informative A Treasure Trove of Memories by Zuleika Mayat The Lotus People by Aziz Hashim Romanticism by Harun Yahya Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela *The book that you are reading for so long but can't finish Once i start reading something i can't put it down until it's finished. And if it's not finished then it just didn't grab my attention :) |
