There has always been an attack on Islam throughout history, but That has increased dramatically in every area since the fall of the soviet union. Now every one talks about the 'green menace' instead of the 'red menace.'

Any way, some of the issues that keep surfacing are, taking ayat's from the Qur'an out of context and claiming that they are preaching & Condoning: hatred, violence (like the beslan incident, or the Suicide attack in iraq that killed over 20 children and 1 U.S. Soldier), beheadings, the second class citizenship of women and their oppression via the veil.

Or some hadith's or incidents throughout islamic history, like the Banu Qurayzah/Battle of Ahzab incident...

How would you respond to that, keeping in mind that most people bring this up just to place islam under the microscope and cast dirt upon it...

Do you just keep on explaining that these allegations are incorrect and it's just a form of propaganda and defaming islam? keep explaining that islam is a peaceful religion? or counter with an offensive of your own, and cite passages from the bible and psalms that condone what islam is accused of, and to shed light upon the dark historical events that deal with christianity. events that are well documented (by non-muslims)?

Or are there other options that muslims can resort to?

 Thanks
Ziad.

[slm] Brother Ziad,

What you wrote here is inarguably one of the most plaging questions of our time (and the ones before it too, I think). Through my research on the internet, in books, and in the lectures of Islamic Scholars, I have come to conclude that there aren't any easy answers that you can memorize for these questions, and let em out when you are asked to... What is required in a situation like this, is to learn the truth about our wonderful religion.

Brother, I can guarantee you, that there are NO shortcomings in Islam or the Quran or the lifestyle of the Holy Prophet [saw]. It is just the continual bickering of the unbelievers and the enemies of Islam, that raises these totally baseless and rather blasphemous questions from time to time.

I'd suggest that you (read, we all) do our 'homework' on Islam properly, especially about topics of such sensitivity, so that we can be ready with answers to suit the questions posed. I am not a learned scholar or an 'aalim' (as we commonly refer to them), and would rather not give some of my opinions on the subjects here. However, what i'd like to do is suggest that you listen to speeches, lectures and writings of Dr. Zakir Naik (IRF, India) about these topics. He has delivered some tremendous lectures on varied subjects, and I must admit, I am very impressed by him.

(May Allah [sawt] Bless him for his work — Ameen)

An interesting article that he wrote, had appeared in the Islamic Voice in April 2004. I'd recommend that you read it, and try to grasp the gist of it. I dont know if posting live links is allowed or not, in this forum, but I'd really appreciate if the moderators do not delete this one (if it is not allowed).
Here's the link: http://www.islamicvoice.com/april.2004/question.htm

I would like to end my post with a dua to Allah (SAWT) to guide us all humble muslims onto the path of righteousness, and give us 'sabr' to endure these testing times, and come out stronger and more well-informed about this beautifully perfect religion called Islam. -Ameen

P.S. "Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious". (Al-Qur'an 16:125)

I can't quite agree.....this is overly simplified.

The fault lies in the people, just as Communism is perfect - except for the communists, and Capitalism is perfect - except for the capitalists.

It is the same for Islam or any other religion. It's how the people are led, the differences which may skew and malign what are very good lessons, values and teachings!

These teachings are like a large stone slab, a foundation upon which to build up one's life.

Some will turn this stone slab upside down and clobber everyone in the head with it, saying "you are wrong" without taking the time to stop and examine every life.

There are some who see the world as a nail and used everything as a hammer. Including this large stone slab. They run with it, they smash everything with it indiscriminately, condemning what they don't know out of their own ignorance.

They have an overdeveloped sense of right and wrong, they take their faith to excessive zeal, something that is warned against.

Why do some have overdeveloped senses? Poverty? Nothing else to do, just sit and remember ancient injustices, sit and grow angry at imaginary enemies when the true enemy may be their own apathy, anger and poverty.

Lack of good leadership, lack of communication will foster these conditions in any society, in any religion or political system.

If anyone is to blame for the bad publicity Islam has....it is strictly those who practice it so badly and demonstrate the lowest qualities rather than the highest ones.

Most secular people don't know what Islam is about! So how can they be enemies if they don't even know?

Same goes for Christians, Communists, Capitalists and anyone else! Because it's always the rotten apples that make the biggest stink, not the good ones!

Islam is lifeless and useless when it's just left in a book. It's only when it is injected into a living being that it makes sense and starts to work.

But it's no "silver bullet" - it can turn the wrong person into a tyrant! Just like anything else can!

So you have to watch the people, get to know them, their hearts and personalities, their abilities and talents. Then choose wisely who shall do what task.

This is just my 2 cents worth.
