slm, I miss the running thread we used to have of Rumi stuff... THE GRIEF OF THE DEAD The Prince of mankind said truly that no one who has passed away from this world feels sorrow and regret for having died, but he feels a hundred regrets for having missed the opportunity, Saying to himself, "Why did I not make death my object--- death which is the store-house of all fortunes and riches, And why, through seeing double, did I fasten my lifelong gaze upon those phantoms that vanished at the fated hour?" The grief of the dead is not on account of death, it is because they dwelt on the phenomenal form of existence and never perceived that all this foam is moved and fed by the Sea. When the Sea has cast the foam-flakes on the shore, go the graveyard and behold them! Say to them, "Where is your swirling onrush now?" and hear them answer mutely, "Ask this question of the Sea, not of us." How should the foam fly without the wave? How should the dust rise to the zenith without the wind? Since you have seen the dust, see the Wind; since you have seen the foam, see the Ocean of Creative energy. Come, see it, for insight is the only thing in you that avalis: the rest of you is a piece of fat and flesh, a woof and warp of bones and sinews. Dissolve your whole body into Vision: become seeing, seeing, seeing! One sight discerns but a yard or two of the road, another surveys the temporal and spiritual worlds and beholds the Face of their King. - Rumi |

Sometimes in order to help He makes us cry. Happy the eye that sheds tears for His sake. Fortunate the heart that burns for His sake. Laughter always follows tears. Blessed are those who understand. Life blossoms wherever water flows. Where tears are shed divine mercy is shown. [Rumi] 'Mathnawi' |

Bismillah When your heart is dark as Iron steadiley polish yourself that the heart may become a Mirror a beautiful shine reflecting from within although iron is dark and dismal polishing cleans the darkness away. {Rumi}. If in the darkness of Ignorance you don't recognize a person's true Nature look to see whom he has chosen for his leader. {Rumi}. Z. |

[slm] Hey where did all of our RUmi fans go? Petals Even when you tear its petals off one after another, the rose keeps laughing and doesn't bend in pain. "Why should I be afflicted because of a thorn? It is the thorn which taught me how to laugh." Whatever you lost through fate, be certain that it saved you from pain. :-) |

IF IF YOU CAN DISENTANGLE yourself from your selfish self all heavenly spirits will stand ready to serve you if you can finally hunt down your own beastly self you have the right to claim Solomon's kingdom you are that blessed soul who belongs to the garden of paradise is it fair to let yourself fall apart in a shattered house you are the bird of happiness in the magic of existence what a pity when you let yourself be chained and caged but if you can break free from this dark prison named body soon you will see you are the sage and the fountain of life translated by Nader Khalili |

excerpt from The Desert No matter how brilliant a mind A soul that’s wise, a heart that’s kind When lost in this endless space Walking the desert pace after pace When of grace there’s no trace It is futile for us to chase The spirit we try to embrace; God in God’s time reveals God’s face. Bismillah Salam Alaikum, 'Scaring the Pious Man' Mathnavi (2:446-457). Translated by: Shahriar. Once a man addressed his pious Friend So much looking around, your eyes Offend. In reply to this, his friend that man Told Eyes are either blind or can Behold. If eyes can see Divine light, say no More In such state, who will need keep the Score? And If not, what do I need my eyes For? To such eyes, better close the light's Door. Worry not for sight, with God Inside Walk ye not astray, ride forth with Pride. For God, your soul, Inside you Resides Ask Him to reveal the gift's that He Hides. Yet enslave him not to your body's Demand Think not God Is there at your Command. Not unlike the fool in the Story Who's life was so Idle and so Sorry. Ask not of God for your body's Lust How can Moses ever Pharaoh Trust? In your heart think not of your daily Bread In His Presence many Feasts are Spread. This body is soul's tent in midnight Dark Soul is Noah, body is much like the Ark. Forsaken, Inside the tent, naked, Stark Sacred, to Beloved, Heavenward Embark. Fi Amanillah Z. |

Bismillah [slm] My Soul Said: they brought me to God's workshop where all things take form, and I flew, before this form of mine, even took shape- I flew and I flew. And when I could fly no longer they dragged me into this form, and locked me Into this house of water and clay. (Rumi) Translated by: Johnathan & Shiva Star. Fi Amanillah Z... |

Bismillah [slm] By: Rumi. Translated by: Anne Marie Schimmel. Oh, if a tree could wander and move with foot and wings! It would not suffer the axe blows and not the pain of saws! For would the sun not wander away in every night? how could at ev'ry morning the world be lighted up? And if the ocean's water would not rise to the sky how would the plants be quickened by streams and gentle rain? The drop that left it's home land the sea, and then returned? It found an oyster waiting and grew into a pearl. Did Yusef {as} not leave his father in grief and tears and despair? Did he not, by such a journey gain kingdom and fortune wide? Did not the Prophet [saw] travel to far Madina, friend? and there He found a new kingdom and Ruled a hundred lands? You lack a foot to travel? then journey into yourself! and like a mine of rubies receive the sunbeams and shine! Out of yourself? such a journey will lead you to yourself, it leads to transformation of dust into pure gold! Fi Amanillah Z... |

Bismillah [slm] Every Prophet sought out Companions. a wall standing alone is useless, but put four walls together, and they'll support a roof and keep grain dry and safe. when ink joins with pen, then the blank paper speaks. rushes and reeds must be woven together to be useful as a mat. if they weren't interlaced; the wind would blow them away. Like that, God paired up creatures, and gave them friendship. (Rumi). Fi Amanillah Ziad. |

Bismillah [slm] for the love of god, no other love seek in the abode of soul, no other task seek other than the beloved, never seek another mate seek not to doubt, trivia make you weak. another love, another task, is an impossible fate in thy godly faith, seek not doubt's stench and reek in soul's territory, heart's courage is great with such courage, turn from strangers and all paths oblique. half the world like vultures, half carcass-like wait cast not vulture's eye upon the dead and the meek if seduces with looks, with features and trait try to see the thorns in that rosy cheek. upon temptations dwell not, nor debate don't make a leader from every lost freak trust not the one who turns from love to hate secrets of your heart with such, do not speak. if the light of shams shone upon you of late concern not yourself with this passing garden's state. (Rumi-Translated by. Shahriar). Fi Amanillah Ziad. |

Bismillah [slm] Never be without remembrance of Him, for His remembrance gives strength & wings to the bird of the Spirit. If that objective of yours is fully realized, that is "Light upon Light"... ...But @ the very least, by practicing God's remembrance your inner being will be illuminated little by little & you will achieve some measure of detachment from the world. -- Jelaluddin Rumi |

[wlm] Honour of Women Bismillahi 'r-rahmani 'r-raheem Jalaluddin Rumi wrote: Women are honoured to carry in themselves the greatest secret – that of human life. The Prophet, to whose speech the whole world was enslaved, use to say: “Speak to me, o, Aisha!” The Prophet said that women dominate men of intellect and possessors of hearts, But ignorant men dominate women, for they are shackled by the ferocity of animals. They have no kindness, gentleness, or love, since animality dominates their nature. Love and kindness are human attributes, anger and sensuality belong to the animals. She is not your “sweetheart”! She is the radiance of God. [wlm] |

[slm] Bismillahi 'r-rahmani 'r-raheem Within people there is a longing and a desire such that, even if a hundred thousand worlds were theirs to own, still they would find no rest or comfort. They try every trade and craft, studying astronomy, medicine and every other subject, but they reach no completion, for they have not found their true desire. Poets call the Beloved “heart’s ease,” because there the heart finds ease. How can we find peace and rest in anything but the Beloved? - Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi |

[slm] Your desire for an illusion is like a wing. This wing will take you to Reality... Preserve the wing; do not feed the desire this wing of desire will take you to Paradise. People think they are enjoying themselves: in reality they are tearing their wings apart for the sake of an imaginary form. (Rumi in MIII 2135-2137-38 ) [wlm] |
