[slm] Do any of u know where to get really cute wedding outfits, which also have long sleeves?  My wedding will be mixed, so I need to cover myself properly.  Also, I'm having a major freakout over hijaabs.  Has anyone got any pics of wedding outfits and ladies wearing hijaab with them?  I'm not sure how to wear a hijaab with wedding clothes so that u can still see much of the top of the outfit. I've never been to any Muslim wedding where the bride is wearing hijaab, so I really don't know how to go about this :(.  All the weddings I've gone to are ones where the gusets are either segregated, or the brides don't wear hijaab anyway. BarakAllaahu feekum for any advise, I desperately need it. wa'salaam

[slm] My friend wore a matching tight headscarf under her Wedding Veil (desi wedding dress obviously), The top of the outfit couldn't be seen much anyway as the veil was huge and really intricately embroidered. Also here jewlery covered a lot of the top half of her outfit too, she had wisely had the kameez embroidered only at the hem. Wassalaam

[slm] Sisters, I feel like an old wet blanket, but, I do want to point out that none of these outfits meet the basic requirements for modesty as set out by Allah in the Qur'an.  I would wonder, where you would wear such things?  At home only?  In that case, is it not a waste of money to spend so much? Please don't think me an old crab  ;) - I just think that to please Allah we should dress much more plain and cover much better than these outfits.  O.K., but, they are lovely to look at  :) (just not practical in the real world!). Peace, ummziba.

Peace, ummziba.[/quote] [slm] Aaaah but Sr, if one lowers the kameez a little and cover the tummy's the lenghas are wearable, we are talking wedding outfits here now, and the shalwar kameez I have a million of those, motly with a lot less embroidery I admit, but the basic cut and colours are very similar. My husband would like to thank Sr. Jannah for letting me know that Gararahs are back in fashion, must go and buy me a few of those too (says she brandishing her husbands credit card), 'Course hubby does not yet know my urgent need for a new wardrobe, but still when he finds out I'm sure He will thank Sr. Jannah......!!!!! Come on....... BTW ummziba you're not the only one who wrote, but really every new person to this board should believe everything everyone posts is intended Islamically and not jump down their throat telling them this is haram, that is haram, etc when they don't know what was intended or the full story.   It's just like this poor girl who came to jumah the other day, and YES she was wearing a belly shirt and YES she was pregnant (I know the two don't go together lol) and this desi aunty went up to her and told her that it is haram, YES haram to come to jumah and that her prayer won't count, etc etc. I wish I had known, ugh! Anyway the girl has not been back since, and guess what... she is married to some Muslim bro here who had a relationship with her before marriage btw (Interesting how no one goes up to him and yells at him) and is pregnant and is NOT Muslim...and now thanks to that aunti will probably never BE Muslim and never wants to come back again. The majority opinion of what is women's awrah to other women is navel to the knees (yup you can breastfeed your child in front of other women). So again those offended by fashion please don't click on this thread!!! If you think wearing black jilbabs is what is Islamic please don't read any further! If somehow all the clothes you buy are magically full sleeved and come with matching hijab and you expect all clothes to be like that then please go to another thread!! If you think these clothes are haram and women are haram wearing on them you shouldn't be looking at them because this is haram as well right!! !! ahh ok i feel better this isn't directed to you sr ummziba or the other sister who wrote.. just venting as one brother said to me J.0. I do have some more will be putting them up shortly ;) addendum btw i just wanted to share this with you guys... a long time ago we had the sisters get together and have a fashion show in our community as an alternative to the prom and WOW did we get flak for it, every aunty and her mother freaked out about it... some said the whole thing was haram, that it would encourage lesbianism, that their daughters would get corrupted, that we should do 'wholesome' activities with them like cooking and sewing?!, that prom dresses were haram, but desi clothes were ok... and on and on.  anyway we had it and it was great alhamdulillah... now 3 years later... the girls who were not allowed to come or participate and who's mothers complained, they are dancing in pakistani shows in front of men, they have been in mixed nonmuslim fashion shows where they show lingerie, and worse things. i even saw 2 of the mothers at this thing that I WALKED out of because it was so gross. talk about hypocrisy.  all the girls that were the main organizers are to this day still a strong hijabi group that go to the masjid and continue to be muslim. so my point is that when you make everything conservative and limited and haram, and you don't give girls a halal outlet for things like dressing up and fashion they WILL find other ways. most parents are kidding themselves about what good little girls their daughters are anyway. do i sound bitter? yeah probably :) same thing tends to happen on campus's if the MSA is rigid and conservative. people who don't follow that conservative line end up going to the paksa and the indian student association because it just ends up being ridiculous and hypocritical with the things the MSA won't allow.

Jannah, you rock :) These are SO my thoughts.. When I have daughters (insha Allah) we will do loads of girly stuff at home and invite their friends around too. I don't get the "oh you shouldn't buy make up for your daughters" and all that crap. Just like how wearing nice fashionable clothes (islamically modified - ie dress over jeans) should be outlawed or something... and yet wearing a shalwar kameez with half your head showing is somehow ok? It's some of this mindset that sends me reeling away from Islam.. drives me mental.. like the Imam said I needed to change my name and yet another convert whose name is Sabine was greeted with "what's your name?", "Sabine", "Mash Allah", - just because Sabine is a known name in Pakistan.  ::) SIGH I love your reply above.. I must hang out here more often and try to remember it was after meeting you lot that I decided that Islam is not so bad after all :) wasalaam eleanor

wlm, Eleanor I know it's really hard. It's always an uphill battle...for me even. It gets soooo frustrating. I don't even want to do youth work sometimes and just say to myself.. it's their stupid kids if they grow up to be messed up its going to be their fault. Then I have to smack myself cause those kids are the future of the ummah!! Just remember that Islam is always and has been always good. It's the people and their wackness that drive us crazy!!! But alhamdulillah.. to each his own... if someone wants to raise their child a certain way or has more conservative ideas good for them, but they should give the same respect to others who want to raise their kids a different yet still halal way. BTW I actually like it when reverts don't change their names and are still active Islamically. It's great dawah! My co-workers who met Kathy thought it was so cool. They're like so Kathy converted to Islam that's so cool..Kathy this and that... etc  I was like lol, they kept talking about her. But if her name was like Amatullah or something they'd just think she was foreign/strange somehow. aritey back to the pictures ;)

[slm] i am so in love w/ this thread, heehee as it is def wedding season. someone had mentioned trying to arrange the dupatta so it is actually covering your hair (for those that wear hijab). there was a wedding a while back of sana and sohaib and mashallah she really did a wonderful job of staying covered up but looked amazing! they have a whole powerpoint slideshow and everything of their wedding. the funny thing is, that i don't even know them! haha, so i won't put up the link for the powerpoint since i feel a little weird broadcasting it to the whole world. if only i could get permission from them somehow  ;)

[slm] Sister Eleanor,  You just have to live your life and do your own thing!   ;)  I came into my own as a Muslim in Germany and people were wonderful to me and really helped me to learn  a lot, al hamdu lillah!  Of course there are always people, who say things that hit the wrong cord, but they mean well.  You have to balance that with all of the wonderful people that you meet.   :-* I have come to the conclusion that there is a lack of respect on all sides.  Instead of people forgiving and making excuse for their brothers and sisters mistakes, we critize and ridicule.  We need to learn to focus on ourselves and if we really knew how to do that, then we would have no time to judge others.   ;)   If I ever make it back to Germany, then I would love to meet you!!!!!!!!!!  Have you ever gone to Haus des Islams in Lutzelbach?  I think that you would feel at home with them.  I went to Umra with them.   Insha'Allah, there will be many blessings in your family's life. My sister in law bought me a bright yellow/red combination outfit. I only ever wear black (and blue because my husband likes blue).
