| [slm] I cannot remember very well now whether it was in Muslim or Bukhari (but I am deadly sure I read it in one of them) that the Prophet [saw] was reported to have said that NOBODY should write down his sayings(hadith) but should only relate them. Why then do we have his saying put in different volumes ??? |

| [slm] why indeed? :) Initially people started writing whatever the prophet [saw] said, [i]together[/i] with the Quran. So there was a danger of the Quran beinng mxed with what the prophet [saw] had said, and also later commentaries, as had happened with the other holy books (Old Testament,- Torah, and New Testament - Injeel). When that danger had passed, the prophet [saw] told people to write down what he said, as from his mouth nothing but the truth emerges. The different volumes are used because these were arranged by topic, and there are too many Hadith to be put in one BIG volume. I wouldn't be able to hold one if all were put in one volume. :) |
