Forward I received... Assalamu Alaikkum! Please do not use "cntrl+c" to copy sensitive data when you are connected to net. We do copy various data by ctrl+c for pasting elsewhere. This copied data is stored in clipboard and is accessible from the net by a combination of Javascripts and ASP. Do not keep sensitive data (like creditcard numbers, bank login/ passwords, PIN, date of births, etc.) in the clipboard while surfing the web. Instead make a practice of typing them always. It is extremely easy to extract the text stored in the clipboard to steal your sensitive information. (remember that our cyber laws are not stringent enough !!). Just try this to beleive yourself, 1) Copy any text by ctrl+c 2) Now, click the Link: http://www.friendlycanadian.com/applications/clipboard.htm 3) You will see the SAME text you copied is accessed by this web page. How to Prevent ============== Got this tip from one of my friends and it works..... But still we should be careful in using cntrl+c to copy sensitive data when connected to net. Solution: To prevent this from happening in Internet Explorer, a. Tools > Internet Options > Security b. For Internet, Custom Level > Scripting, Disable "Allow paste operations via script |

[slm] Can't the clipboard be cleared? Like sometimes when I accidently press ctrl-C multiple times with MS Word, the clipboard pops up and then I can clear it if I want to do so. Sabri |

wlm, yeah it can be cleared.. but let's say u were copy pasting your social security number somewhere.. or some sensitive text and then you go on internet explorer and start surfing around... anyone who has that script running can pick up what's in your clipboard...also scripts can pick up the structure and filenames of all your folders on your hard-drive so i'd always be careful what u name stuff ;) |

[slm] So just to make sure...what are we disabling again? It's kind of unclear. Okay so, either way...it's pretty scary. I also know this person in Texas who can do crazy weird things by hacking into people's personal computers. I've seen him in action...it's so crazy. Wasalaam. |

[slm] everyone. Jazakaalhu kairan for this information sis. The internet is very dangerous truly. Just wanted to ask, what if you have the XPSP2. I went there but it was kind of complicated because there was the script ACTIVE X CONTROL MARKED SAFE FOR SCRIPTING which is enabled and there was ALLOW SCRIPTING OF INT. EXP. BROWSER which is disabled and two other things there with the name script on it? ??? Which one is it sis. [slm] |

wlm, u don't have to turn off anything... cause if u do that sometimes other stuff won't work on websites. just keep the warning in mind and don't copy paste any sensitive data, just always type it in. |
