ruk`oos in the Quran

does anyone know who introduced the "ruk`oo" in the Quran, and when. This symbol takes the form of a big "ain" at the margin of the Quranic text, with numbers above, below and in the middle. The top number indicates the serial number of th "ruk`oo" in the Surah, the bottom one represents the serial number of the "ruk`oo" in the juzz.

As far as I can see the Quran printed in Saudi Arabia, and perhaps in other Arab countries as well does not have this division. Is it an Indian way only?

It is quite useful though. The theme in one ruk'oo is the same, and when another theme starts, a new ruk`oo begins.

For example, Surah Yaseen is divided into six ruk`oos (paragraphs). These are as under:

ruku 1, Ayahs 1-12 These affirm the prophethood of Muhammad [saw].

ruku 2, Ayahs 13-32: Here the example of a town is presented, where  the residents did not listen to three prophets and a caller (to the Truth). Instead they stoned the caller to death, who was immediately rewarded by Allah, and the town (with its rsidents) was destroyed.

ruku 3, Ayahs 33-50 Talks of how Allah (swt) provides for all, and hence man should feel and express gratitude and accept Tawheed.

ruku 4, Ayahs 51-68 Tells us about the situation in Qiyamah, Jannah, Hell.

ruku 5, Ayahs 69-75 Further introduces the Quran as word of Allah, not poetry.

ruku 6, Ayahs 76-83 Reassures the prophet [saw], and asks him to continue the dawah, and not be troubled by its rejection by the non-believers.

now my questions again, please. When and by whom was this division into rukoos made.

here is a correction. I looked at the Saudi prints that are printed with ease for Indo-Pak Muslims, and these do have the ruku`us in them. I still do not know who introduced them, although it is a good one, for these can be thought of as paragraphs.
