| As salaam Alaikum, Sisters. I'm sure this question or some variety of it has been asked a thousand times but here it goes again. Are you allowed to wax or otherwise remove hair from your eyebrows (excluding plucking, of course)? I mean, I know you can't pluck your eyebrows but some sisters have told me that waxing and threading are okay. I mean a couple of weeks ago my masjid had a fair type thing and there was an area where they were doing beauty stuff and they were threading and waxing eyebrows. Even the Imam's wife was getting her's done. Thanks in advance for answering. Sister Rahmah |

| wlm, I don't see how using a different method to do something makes it allowed? Whether you pluck or wax or thread basically you're doing the same thing ie. ripping out the hair of the eybrows in order to shape it a certain way for the sake of beauty. But I think the real question is whether or not the shaping of the eyebrows is allowed and perhaps that's something everyone should ask their imam/religious scholar they trust. |

| Asslamalakum Sister, I recently had such a question about eye brow waxing so I asked my much trusted Imam and he told me that Eye Brow Waxing, plucking etc... is haram When one is trying to shape their eye brows in a certain way for the sake of beauty. Allah created us in a certain way so when one tries to pluck out eye brows, paint fingers toes etc.. Its kind of like your saying to Allah SWT That he did not create your naturally beautiful so your trying to change yourself. That is the way I look at this subject. I hope this helps to some extent. | [slm] I have heard that eyebrow shaping is haram but removing facial hair like near your upper lip or chin is ok. Why the difference? Sometimes, the eyebrows are just soo bushy so can it be made less so, without making it into those ones as thin as a line? |

| [slm] The difference between eyebrows and hairs above the lip, well the latter make one look like a man. Eyebrows are very rarely as bad as the owner of them thinks. I have read that one can remove hairs of the eyebrow in extreme cases eg if the eyebrow is joined in the middle. In this case I'd definitely go with Sr. Jannah's advice, ask an imam to issue a ruling dealing with your particular case. Having said that, has anyone ever tried just combing the eyebrows to make them look tidy, they end up growing perfectly. Obviously do not use a regular hair brush made for the head hair. Wassalaam |
