Help: During Pregnancy?

salam alaikum

I have just been told by the doctor that I am pregnant with my first child.

This is a very exciting moment for me and my husband.

Can my dear sisters share with me about any special ibadah during this period? Liek any
specific duas or surahs?

Also, any other things I should be careful about like eating which type of food and about
keeping intimate relations with my husband?

jazak Allah khair

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!! Sister.
How wonderful. Motherhood is wonderful.

May I suggest a book which really helped my daughter-in-laws
out. It is titled:

What to expect when you're expecting.

It will give you a lot of insight. Read it with hubby so he'll understand what you're going through and the changes to your body and emotions due to hormones.
Make sure you get a lot of rest.
Go one regular walks.

As to imtimate relations, gosh I don't want to be to personal on the borad here but I want to be helpful. With my first one (blush) we had relations the night before he was born. (blush)
Just ask your doctor at each visit to confirm you have no issues that would cause you to refrain from martial relations.
Like healthy food and exercise and lifestyle a healthy sex lfe with your husband is healthy for you both.

I have not been preggers  :) in 26 years. But back then they use to tell women to be careful the first 3 months.
Maybe a sister who is more up to date can say if that is still the case.
Best wishes for a comfortable pregnacy, an easy and fast labor and a beautiful and healthy baby.
:-)

If you want the 'what to expect...' book, I'll be happy to send you my copy if you like.

I was told to pray Surah Maryam lots, when pregnant.

Congratulations, and enjoy every last sleep in you get, once the baby is here it will be the last time you sleep late for a long time.  :D

Congratulation! May Allah swt bless you easy pregnancy and with a healthy baby, Ameen.

I read a long time ago in a megazine that whatever mothers  listens to during pregnancy, effects the baby e.g. few mothers listen to  classical music during pregnancy and  later on those children appreciated classical music more. I dont know how correct that study was but I did recited the  whole Quran during all three of my pregnancies.

Wasalam
tq

ps: My five months old sits quietly through the jumma khutbas and salah. I dont know if it is because of the Quran, or that I give her a bath and feed her before coming to masjid :)

Pregnancy is such an awesome and amazing time! Subhana Allah, the miracles that your body is undergoing....imagine a little human soul is being shaped and formed inside you  :o

That's something i can't get over..and seeing my son, babbling and crawling now, makes me even more astounded...even saying things like "my son" makes me awed :)

What everyone has said so far is sooo true! Listening and reading to Quran is really important and helpful to calm your own nerves and make the baby more pre disposed to hearing the rhythm and beauty of the Quran from early on.

Read and reflect on the whole Quran, people naturally have certain surahs they like more than others, but try to set some goals and read a little each day.

take care of your health, by *working* out even during pregnancy (okay don't *start* now, but at the very least do walking and increase it slowly to power walk...) If you were already physically active, keep it up to the very end, it really really helps with labor.

eat healthy, being pregnant is *not* an excuse to over eat or over indulge..and think what eating really bad stuff does to your baby...don't take medicines too much and if you can sleep it off, try to avoid them period.

drink lots and lots of water...and then drink some more. being hydrated is crucial...

as fozia said, sleep lots...and towards the end when you have insomnia (if u do ) then pray lots of Qiyaam, pray for the spiritual/emotional/physical health of you and the baby:)

well really enjoy yourself, and let hubby pamper you...and take care doubly of you and lil one.

If you have any specific q's feel free to ask...

Congratulations!!!

Just doing my obstetrics rotation now.

Some tips!

Try not to slouch when standing or sitting. The number of breech positions is rising, due to women leaning back too much whilst driving, watching TV etc.

Sex is definitely ok, and if you're overdue (most first time mums run a little late), a bit of sex and a good orgasm can push you into labour. Don't worry about the uterus squeezing: it's like giving your baby a cuddle. Other things to get baby moving are hot spicy foods or icy water.

Keep as active as you can. Swimming makes you feel light again!

When labour comes, do what feels natural, and don't get bullied into lying flat/ dangling from the celing/whatever they want you to do. You know your body best: go wth the flow. But...

Listen to your midwife/doctor. If they say you shouldn't be having sex/running about/working, then it's for a good reason. Get them to explain why.

Enjoy your pregnancy! Congratulations again.
