The pioneer female reverts institution in the country (Kenya), Aisha Centre held its graduation ceremony last Sunday where 39 students graduated after undergoing a six months training programme for new Muslims.

The guest of honour at the event was Aisha Wangare, a Muslim activist currently pursuing Islamic Studies at the Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.  Wangare, a revert herself, talked on the importance of the students of abide by the teaching of Islams regardless of the environments they encountered.  She said Islma was a complete way of life which stressed on observing its teachings in all acts of a person's life.

Sister Wangare also gave a moving testimony on her journey to Islam which she encountered after working for several years with the National Carrier Kenya Airways and later a radio producer in Australia.  She exhorted the students to be good ambassadors of Islam by putting in action Islamic moral teachings when they returned to their homes.

The students were also addressed by the Director of the Girls' Training Institute (Maahad) Pangani Azra Khwaja who encouraged them to seek further Islamic Knowledge which would benefit them in this life and the hereafter.

This is the first graduation since the centre relocated to its present site at Sigona in Kiambu District.

The over 200 guests were entertained by the graduating students with plays, poems, Islamic songs and lecturers conveying high Islamic morals.

The students may of them new comers to Islam received intensive studies in the basics of Islam as well as, tailoring, cookery and computer studies.

The next intake is expected to be held after Ramadan.

The original home of the centre at the South B Masjid grounds was gutted down by fire in the year 2000 South B clashes which also saw the Masjid being burnt to the grounds.

The centre was reconstructed at a cost of Shs. 7 million by Al Fajr Al Jadid, a Nairobi community based organization.
