Motherhood: {almost} Six months and Counting...

I feel like the last six months have been merely encapsulated within a blink of an eye. The days when I look up at my crawling, babbling, drooling bundle of such profound joy and can’t seem to picture what life was like before Sufyan.

Six months of countless diaper changes, interrupted sleep, planning…Six months of placating rising fears and anxiety over the kind of man I will raise, and what the unfathomable depths of this world has to offer to him.

To see his personality emerge in bits and pieces and witness his utterly joyous fascination with everything around him is awe-inspiring. Endowed with a happy disposition, stubbornness, and an alacrity of spirit that is so easy to excite (and be excited by); he is so easy to fall in love with. He refused to be ever treated like “a baby” in the swaddling, hugging way, and prefers to be “roughened” up by his uncles and dad (I eventually had to give in).

Six months of countless moments of experiencing such incredible depths of love (the word love has never been so inadequate to describe what I am trying to convey). It is like the greatest love poetry was never written for a lover to his beloved, but simply a parent to a child…and still the greatest love poetry would be merely like using a candle to illustrate a magnificent sunrise. Perhaps the greatest love story was never better told than in the moment a mother beholds her child’s eyes.

There is such a purity of innocence, such utter vulnerability, and genuine display of emotions; seemingly forgotten in a world full of hypocrisy, poli-tricks, corruption, poverty and despair.

In his eyes, all the world’s ills simply melt away into irrelevancies. For I behold all that his hopeful, beautiful, enduring…all that is eternal, harmonious and true.

Six months of constant reminders of the Greatness of Our Creator; for in each of his enthusiastic struggles to learn how to eat, move, and relate lies a humbling pointer to the lowliness of our beginnings.

Six months of depths, laughter, tears…six months of inspiration to do more, be more, rise more…

Six months…of tongue tied, half spoken silences…for truly words are too finite to describe such an infinitesimal aspect of His Vastness. [/color]

Your post brought tears to my eyes, how beautifully described. I have a 7 month old and he is the world to me, children are such beautiful blessings from Allah. I lay my son on the bed and lay down next to him and bring my face close to his, and he just turns to my side, holds my hair from both sides of my face and has a blast chewing and drooling all over my face, its the most wonderful feeling :D dad is a little jealous cuz his face is so rough it cannot be chewed and drooled  over :) May Allah bless your son and make him a wonderful and righteous person inshaAllah. Take care sis.
