| [slm] Indian girl's one-rupee suicide Half of India's children are malnourished, a UN report says A 12-year-old Indian girl committed suicide after her mother told her she could not afford one rupee - two US cents - for a school meal. Sania Khatun lived with her mother in a village north of Calcutta under a tarpaulin sheet provided by the state. Sania normally ate nothing at school but on Friday saw classmates eating rice and asked for one rupee. Her mother scolded her and when she returned from work found her daughter hanged from the ceiling with a sari. "She wanted just one rupee... but her mother could not give her the money due to poverty," government official Nakul Chandran Mahato told the Reuters agency. 'Snapped' The mother, Jainab Bewar, is a widow who works as a maid in the village of Paraspur, 200km (125 miles) north of Calcutta. She normally fed her daughter with food she could get from the houses she worked in. India's Telegraph newspaper said Sania was tempted by the sight of classmates eating puffed rice and oil cakes. Ms Bewar told the newspaper: "I did not give her the money as I did not have it. I snapped at her when she insisted on it." She and her sons never earn more than $13 a month combined, she says. India has seen unprecedented economic growth in recent years but many remain untouched by the improvements. | [slm] This is so terrible. I am afraid that we will all be answerable for these things since we are the passive observers of such incidents. May Allah forgive us all. I don't understand if there is a solution to such problems on a global scale. I know what an idealistic solution would be but Im a realist and know human nature well enough to know that it will fail. Sorry for being so cynical. Are there ways to direct our Ramadan zakat to be sent to these kinds of places. I mean where they actually get it, not where a portion goes into someone else's pocket... |

| This is what Life is like in india. It isn't to do with the wealth of the country. India is a lot richer than alot of countries, but has more poor people. This is because of the caste System. People are poor by caste, so have to remain there. And fighting what they believe is God's will. A lot of the low castes don't get paid, They get the scarps of what the high castes eat as payment for cleaning. Cleaning is considered too lowly for high castes to do so low castes have to do it. Hindus as a whole don't help the poor, because it is the poors own fault that they were born poor. This is because hindus believe they must have done some very bad things in previous lives to be reincarnated poor. Muslims do give them Zakat, this is why many of them became Muslims. Most Indian Muslims are the decendents of low castes. High caste hindus don't like this, so they go about killing Muslims and rioting. Because if all the low castes become Muslims, there will be no one to do all the dirty jobs that the high caste cant do for religious reasons. Inshallah Muslims need to invade India and implement Islamic Shariyah on them. This will liberate the Low caste Hindus. We can also liberate the Hindu women and stop them being burnt to death on their husbands funeral piers (it still happens) or in the kitchin when their fathers cant afford Dawry. It is sick that vermin are fed in india while people starve. they place food on their stone gods and watch it rot while people outside starve. they feed rats pure milk because they think they were their dead relatives while children starve. Vermin are allowed in to eat the food while they refuse to allow low caste hindus in to the temples, because they consider the low caste as dirty and think their presents will desecrate the temple. |

| ember i know how you feel we definitely should feel responsible. i think each of us should imagine how we will respond to Allah when asked about every cent we spend and if it is justified. as for india and the caste system... muslims have their own caste system there too... about light skin versus dark skin and about wealth and tribe or whatever. they also have dowry crimes and burn women etc. so "invading india and implementing shariah" is kind of ridiculous when the muslims themselves practice the same thing hindus do and have the same issues and crimes. abdullah cohn I deleted your rats picture cause that's just gross. |

| [slm] What abdullah wrote bout is a very prevalent attitude that many muslims (indians and some non-indians alike) have. Pity the hindus who have brought their problems on themselves. If only they were muslims all will be well. Just pick up any indian newspaper and check out the dowry deaths and chances are that u will find a number of muslim names - muslim women killed by her muslim mothers-in-law most often aided by the muslim husbands for more dowry and then there are those cases of muslim fathers/brothers killing their muslim daughters for marrying a hindu boy (don't even get me started on the number of muslim boys who marry hindu gals n live happly with their muslim families). As for the caste system i have heard muslims say something like how the syeds are equivalent to the brahmins ... and they got the whole caste heirarchy thing mapped out. Astaghfirullah. And lets not get started on the whole triple talaq bit and the talaq by text messaging. To say social evils exist only in hindu societies alone is extremely naive. |

| [slm] I agree with the sisters here. Our societies are sick, and the burden of poverty is falling mostly on Muslims. This may well be due to non-Muslim influences on us, either our forefathers carried their non-Muslim baggage when they became Muslim, or the societies have influenced them. At parties, people overstuff their plates, and throw away the food after sampling a little, stuffing the plates again and again. The beggars are organised into gangs, operated by mafias. And the Middle Class, which by education and proximity, can see the poor, is often unwillingly to give the time and effort needed. btw, the girl was a Muslim, you can tell by her name and the name of her mother. although these names are now carried by Christians as well. |
