| well since im arab.. i feel the need to diversify this thread... too much desi stuff :P so heres some goodies from the arab world (mostly algeria/morocco) these outfits are worn by those attending the wedding not the bride herself... at the henna parties.. trad outfits are worn by the bride.. and on the wedding day.. its the usually white gown... :) |

| salaams fozia.. u cant get these online ones that are posted online... but there are websites that sale these... they are mostly in arabic or french.... and yes they are reidicously expensive... the really fancy ones start at 250 - 300 bux and up... :(, at least thats how much they were when i was in algeria this summer ... |

| salampeaceshalom, it is a wedding outfit... anywhos.. heres the times when to wear these outfitsand who gets to wear them... at least in Algeria and Morrocco (where theyre from) ... its important to keep in mind that each arab does there own thing.... even if theyre in teh same arab country but there are many similarities... heres the deal... the henna... not every arab does this but the majority do... those outfits that u saw are mostly from morrocco and algeria... in algeria (im algerian) in the henna.... only women who are married wear these traditional outfits... cause its supposed to be gifts from the guys side or her family when she gets married... those that arent married.. wear western style clothing... however a married women doesnt HAVE to wear it... she can wear western style clothing as well... now guests who wear these outfits wear them to either the henna, walima ... whatever they want really..even on other non wedding occasions.... In america for the henna, ive seen guests wear western style clothing cause theyre more revealing and since its only girls they take that opportunity to wear them ... in arab countries, the majority of arab women dont really care about hijab... so theyll wear watever even if they are hijabi to weddings... however those that choose to wear the arab outfits, the style of the clothing is pretty much the same as u saw... however... the brides style is MUCH more fancier than everyone elses... for example.. comparing this to desi culture... teh girl wears a red lengha for her wedding... but there are other girls guests who also wear lengas to the wedding.. but they are not the same style and not as fancy as the brides??? u get it??? for the wedding... the majority (and i can safely say almost 99 percent) of arabs wear the tradtinional white western dress for post pre wedding stuff.. that depends on the girl really.... if u want to do some extra things or not.. for example... some will throw a brunch the day after the wedding and the bride will get dressed up in a fancy schmancy outfit... some will throw dinners before the wedding and shell get dresed up to those.. she can wear whatever she wants.. western or arab.. doenst matter.. ive seen mostly arab stuff... hope that helps a little bit |
