I have a couple friends leaving to go to India for a couple
weeks. I was wondering what kind of things one would request as
souvenirs  when asked?

Anyone here from India or have family there?

14) glass bangles
15) pearls, if they're going to hyderabad
16) sandalwood art (smells real nice but very expensive), if they're going to bangalore

Hmm... seems like all of us here have varied opinions of what a visit to India might be good to look forward to.

...and speaking of 'people' to meet, sis Azizah, i'd suggest if they'r coming to Bombay (aka mumbai) then they could visit the IRF (Islamic Research Foundation, www.irf.net), and maybe also get some stuff (CDs/DVDs/Reading material etc) from Dr. Zakir Naik.

Or maybe go to Nagpur and meet Maulana Abdul Karim Parekh (Parekh Compound, Lakad Gunj, Nagpur-440008.)

that was funny hania :)

well if someone was going i'd ask them for:

at least one nice ethnic outfit.. sari/shalwar kameez/lengha, azizah if u don't wear any of those ask them for a kurta top
also ask them to bring u a kashmiri type shawl those are gorgeous altho expensive..
if ur into cool jewlery they might be able to find some not so expensive silver stuff
well my list is way too long i could just go on and on shopping wise :)
but maybe ask ur friends to bring u back unique crafts type stuff.. also i'd give them some money so that they can get something nice

hope that helps,
wsalama wrt

Teeny tiny silver anklets for your granddaughter. They'll be real silver, and completely inexpensive, and your granddaughter will love you forever for them.
