| [slm] to all the bros and sis's.. hope you are all well, insha Allah. I need a bit of help if you have the time. Can someone please help me and tell me a way to explain to my mother that circumcision is not an infringement of human rights and also not infant mutilation?? :'( Something other than "it is required in islam" would be good... :-[ Thanks all, wasalaam eleanor |

| [wlm] You could say it helps prevent certain STDs [http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/15/opinion/15sat4.html]. It is a mutilation that is beneficial like when doctors might remove the tonsils of a person. Surely it is a more meaningful gesture than parents who have their children's ears pierced although they are not old enough to legally consent to such a decision. Hope it helps :-* |

| slm, I also read somewhere that it helps prevent prostate cancer or something?? Also, you can let her know that Jews also have this practice so it's not something really strange or weird and most hospitals have this as part as their birth services for boys. |

There's a lot of information there with benefits, statistics, and related matter on the subject. 2.
