How and of what did the prophet (SAW) die?

Today’s lesson is very compassionate and close to the heart. Do you love the prophet PBUH? Are you wishing to see him? Today we will concentrate on one verse [Now hath come unto you an Apostle from amongst yourselves: it grieves him that ye should perish: ardently anxious is he over you: to the believers is he most kind and merciful.] (Tauba) So you miss him, do you truly wish to see him and meet him? I wonder if you were living with him, would you have sacrificed like the companions did? Say Yes! Do you want to feel him even more, this verse will help you do that. Do you wish to meet him and talk to him? The prophet was fair-faced. Sayidna Jabber said that he was walking on a moonlit night and saw the prophet coming towards him. He said "I kept looking at the moon and looked back at the prophet, and I swear the face of the prophet was more beautiful." subHanaAllah! Salah Allahu `alaa Muhammed, Salah Allahu Alayhi wa Salam!

It has been narrated on the authority of 'Amr ibn Ahwas Jashni ra that he heard Rasulullah saw say in his sermon on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage. After praising and glorifying Allah swt, he admonished people : " Treat woman kindly, they are like captives in your hands, you do not owe anything else except them. In case they are guilty of open indecency, you may leave them alone in their beds and inflict slight punishment. If they are obedient to you, do not have recourse to anything else against them. You have your rights over your wives and they have their rights over you. Your rights is that they shall not permit anyone you dislike to enter your and their rights is that you should treat them well in the matter of food and clothing ". (Tirmidhi)

The prophet was 63 at this time, he had grown old that he started sitting down to pray the sunnas. He said he had got tired, tired from his worry over people. On this night, he would go up to the farewell pilgrimage when the verse came down "This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion" [Maida] Everyone felt happiness except for one, abu bakr, who was weeping. When asked why, he replied that he knew this meant this the prophet’s death was near.

After his farewell sermon, muslims increased in the mosque and the noises grew louder, "What’s wrong with the prophet of God?" Everyone was worried. Aisha said "The prophet heard their voices and said "What’s wrong with everyone?" to which she said "They are worried about you of prophet of God" So he said "Carry me to them." He tried to get up but couldn’t so they poured over him 7 bowlfuls of water so that he could get up. He was carried up to the pulpit so that he could give his final speech to the muslims before his death. Listen to the final words from your prophet. These words which should be filling your brain: "Oh people, it’s as if you’re worried about me. Oh people, our time together is not for this world, our time together is at the pool of water (in heaven). I swear by God, it is as if I am looking at it from my position here. Oh people, I am not worried about you becoming poor". Listen to the final wise words from the prophet and learn from them. I swear that I am not worried about you becoming poor, but I am worried about you from this world, that you may live it and breathe it the way generations before you did and then it destroys you like it destroyed them.

Oh people! Fear God in your prayers!" I have sworn you with God, prayers!" so he kept repeating it "Fear God in your prayers! Oh people, fear God in your dealings with women! Fear God in your dealings with women! Fear God in your dealings with women" He was reminding them of their women and he was worried about them. Look at his love for you. "Fear God in your dealings with women" He didn’t forget you when he was dying "Fear God in your dealings with women"

Then he said "Oh people, there is a person who was given the choice between this world and between what God has, and he chose what God has." The people didn’t understand who he was talking apart from one person – Abu Bakr, the truthful, who stood up and said "If anything was to harm you, we would sacrifice our fathers for you, we would sacrifice our mothers for you, we would sacrifice our children for you, we would sacrifice our money for you!" The people started to look at Abu Bakr badly. The prophet then stopped his speech and began to defend Abu Bakr and said "Oh people, leave Abu Bakr, for by God there is not one of you, who if you did us a favour we did not reward rightly. Apart from Abu Bakr, I have not been able to reward him so I have left his reward to God Almighty. Then he started praying for us, "May God give you shelter, may God save you, may God help you stick to your faith, may God make you victorious, may God give you strength, may God make you victorious".

Then the last thing he said, "Send my greetings to everyone who follows me from my Omma until the Day of Judgement"

Then he went back to Aisha’s home and put his head in her bosom and raised his face and said "Yes! the highest companion, Yes, the highest companion" What happened was that Gabriel came into the house and said "Assalamo Alayka oh Prophet of God. The angel of death is at the door of your home and is asking for your permission to enter, and will not ask anyone after you" So Aisha hears him as he says to him "Permit him to enter Gabriel" and she understands. The angel of death enters and stands near the prophet’s head and says "Assalamo Alayka oh prophet of God. God has sent me to ask you to choose, between staying in this world and reaching Him " So the prophet said "Yes! The highest companion, yes, the highest companion" So the angel of death stood by the prophet’s head and said to him "Oh kind soul, the soul of Mohammad son of Abd Ul Allah. Come out to acceptance from God and His blessing, and to a satisfied God, a God who’s not angry." Aisha said "So the prophet’s arm fell and his head grew heavier in my bosom so I knew that the prophet had died. I didn’t know what to do. So what I did was that I opened the door of my room and walked in on the men in the mosque and cried at the top of my voice "The prophet has died, the prophet has died!" so that the mosque erupted in weeping, and not one person could stand up! The prophet died.

Our practical work for tonight and tonight is Thursday night, we will all pray for him tonight Salla Allah Ala Sayidna Muhammed, and sending to everyone messages urging them to do the same! And live out his sunna, follow the examples of his morals and of his worshipping!

So what was the cause of death?

slm,

Just curious why you're asking? And would we even know? He had a deep fever and was ill and later died. Can we determine what the cause is looking back from modernity? And when the prophet saw said something to the effect that prophets can endure multiple times the pain ordinary people can, can we even relate that to a human disease and that if any of them had even a little of the fever they would have died already?

One time a nonmuslim girl tried telling me the prophet [saw] had MultipleScelerosis? or something like that. I was like?? Where did you get that? She said she read it in an orientalist book that he used to have shakes and spasms etc and they determined that was what disease it was. I was like.duhhh....he was receiving revelation!!! If an ordinary person received revelation I'm sure they would shake and have spasms. You just can't compare the outward of something like that especially for a prophet because they have miracles and things that are outside our understanding. For example, a prophet's body never decomposes, can we compare that to a regular human body, can we determine what 'disease' it has so it doesn't do that? We just can't compare some things of prophets to ordinary people and the only people that do tend to be people who do not believe that he was a prophet and make up lies like he had diseases or was crazy or inspired or whatever.

Anyway just asking because I'm wondering if you read something or someone told you something about it?

I want to know because I heard someone say something to the affect of 'evil eye took him to his grave'. I know we believe that there is evil eye and we say 'masha allah' and stuff and pray the three kul suras for all sorts of protection but I did not understand this statement and wanted to find out what he died of.
I've never really heard of the prophets death. Information I gathered ends at the last sermon and begins again after the death, nothing ABOUt the death. So Im curious about it and why there is little Ive heard about it.

Never heard the evil eye bit, but I do know that the prophet [saw] was poisoned by an old jewish woman once but not enough to kill him because he was told of it, and some biographers mention that might have weakened him.
