Islam in the workplace

One of the amazing things about this place I work at is the number of Muslims.  14 of us went out for an Eid lunch the other day.  We also pray zuhr, asr, and maghrib in jamaat in an office.  This is such a wonderful feeling, and a blessing.

Wow, Subhanna Allah. I wonder if people who are in "Muslim" countries get how wonderful this was for you.

As a revert in American society, or you as a Muslim in America, we are so alone in our daily lives. We never fit in from 9-5, which is half our lives.

It is indeed a blessing for you to find these brothers at work.

wlm,

yeah seriously its really nice... when i first started working the thing i missed the most was just seeing another muslim face during the day. coming from a school environment of seeing and hanging out with muslims every day it was painful not to see a smiling muslim face. alhamdulillah now i'm back in a school environment and do see some muslims every day usually :)

[slm] good for you, bhaloo and jannah.

It is strange. I wasn't religious at all, but when I came back to live in Pakistan and I heard the azaan, I realised what I had been missing. I still did not pray regularly for a decade at least, but it reassured me to hear the azaan five times a day, and not jus from one mosque, but one after another from all the nearby ones, specially at Fajr and Maghrib.

ANd then when Islam is therrearound you, you know your children would be that much less laible to stary away.

I know how you feel. May Islam be the way of life in your locality, too.

Aameen to your duaa, Timbuktu.

Last night I had dinner with some of these brothers from work and other friends.  And one of them was saying that is the reason he likes his job, it's because of the Muslims there.  And I have to agree, that is a very huge factor, having so many Muslims there.

One really cool think happened a few days ago at work.  Our company donates to charities and then matches employee's money and sends it.  So one of the Muslimah's included a bunch of our names and sent it to the Manager of the charity thing at work and said, you guys have done a wonderful job with other relief efforts, and we would like you to donate the money for the earthquake relief effort to Islamic Relief.  And she gave a link to a site that rated Islamic Relief to be a 4 star charity, and a link to their website.  (I'm not doing justice to the way she wrote it).  Anyways, the manager was so impressed he said, we will donate all the money to Islamic Relief.  For every dollar that an employee donates, the company matches it with two dollars.  So a hundred dollar donation is actually a three hundred dollar donation.
