| [slm] All, [size="5"]SHOES[/size] Well, it has been said that women are obsessed in one thing or the other. Sometimes true but sometimes not. Anyway, I would not have considered myself obsessed with anything until some people have pointed it out. I like shoes and match them with the outfit I am wearing. And being one with small feet, shoes in my size (37) are easily available in a variety of colours and designs. Colleagues, friends and even family have been commenting on my good taste in shoes and now that I have shoes matching my outfits, colleagues are wondering how many pairs I have and whether I have space for all of them in my bedroom. My kids, sisters and family members comment that there some that I don't even wear anymore and should donate them. The space for shoes in my wardrobe is full and I now have to line them infront of the wardrobe. I AM BECOMING ANOTHER IMELDA MARCOS! OH MY! One colleague - a fellow woman - has been watching me keenly. In our tea room at the office during tea time, she found that chance to ask me about my shoes. This is a tea room where there are plenty of people taking tea, some sitting there to drink, some pouring and then leave to go and have their tea at their desks. She said: "Halima, you do have taste in shoes as well as outfits. I wonder how many pairs you do have now. What does your husband say about your many shoes?" Many colleagues know that I am divorced hence stopped drinking their tea, eagerly waiting for my answer but this lady didn't. My response: "I don't have one". And she said: "No wonder - all the time nodding her head!!!". Everybody burst into laughter at her reaction. The one interesting fact about my shoes, which my family knows but my colleagues don't is that most of them are gifts. I hardly just go and buy shoes but friends who travel a lot always come back with a pair of shoes for me. They know my size. Sometimes they ask what colour I would like and sometimes, just guess and bring me what they fancy. In most cases, they would have been my choice if I were the one buying them. When my sister used to live in Italy, she would just buy and send them to me. So, I am becoming Imelda Marcos when I am not even speading my own money on shoes! [size="5"]HANDBAGS[/size] The story is completely different when it comes to handbags. The idea of changing handbags to match my outfit is one I dread and don't like simply because I have to empty the contents of one to transfer to another one. This entails sorting through accumulation of junk from the emptied one before transfering the remaining contents to the other one. This takes a lot of time for nothing! So, I carry one handbag till even my own children say: "Mum, this bag is getting tattered and embarassing to us let alone you! Don't you feel embarassed to carry such a bag?" Then, and only then, do I change my handbag. This means I have to sit for a while to sort the contents, decide what I want to keep and what should be thrown away. For a day a two, my handbag is lighter and manageable. Plus I like black handbads because they go along with all colours of outfits in everyday life except when there are important occasions - weddings, corporate parties from companies whom we are clients of, etc. - which warrant a stylish kind of handbag. For the occassional office parties, I take my everyday handbag. And I don't fancy outtings, especially parties, be they weddings or otherwise, to the point that people have stopped inviting me to them. [size="5"]SENTIMENTAL VALUES[/size] Saturday, I was reading one of our local daily newspapers and there was a columist who had written on how people accumulate junk at home for no particular reason but sentimental values. I thought the guy was talking about me! I have so many things in the house that I really need to get rid off but always don't have the time to do so. People at home have even suggested that they do it for me but I can't let them because I think they might throw away something I still need or like. So, I keep saying that one day, we will sit together and sort them out. When it comes to papers, I have to read each one before it is thrown away. If a piece of paper takes me down memory lane, I decide that this should stay! I did this once upon a time when I really sat down and decided to do a thorough clean up of my living space through out the house. I have donated my children's clothes but I not so mine. My kids keep saying that I need to let go of things that I don't wear anymore. Easier said than done. Seriouly though, I need to do it. One day INSHA-ALLAH. [wlm] Halima |

| My obsession isn't shoes (9 wide in American sizes :o ). Instead , mine is my scarves! ;D. I also match them to my big blouses!! Here's to our obsessions [] Laila |
